Windshield replacement question
I just had my front windshield replaced and I have to say it's been a bit of a nightmare getting the people that my shop subbed it out with to get things right. They've already had to reinstall it once for using too much adhesive and it sticking to the a-pillar cloth. I'm now noticing that I'm seeing a reflection of my white paint at the very bottom of the window. I'm pretty sure it's because they installed the windshield incorrectly again or they are missing a part. Could anyone check and see if there is any gap at all between their windshield and the defrost vents on their front? I'm able to fit a full finger and go all the way down and touch the exterior paint underneath. I checked on my wife's C43 (yeah, I know, we're weird like that) and there is no gap at all between the plastic of the defrost vent and the windshield.

I've just recently had my windshield replaced also, but my MB dealership to my surprise and delight does this all in-house. They have factory trained glass techs, so they use factory glass and do the install and all the required calibration of the cameras afterwards themselves. There's not supposed to be any gaps and MB actually has a patented way to glue the windshield in to make sure there is a proper seal along the A-pillar. Did you get factory glass or NAGS glass (aftermarket)? It sounds like your windshield is not a proper fit, which is something I've heard can be a problem with NAGS glass. I have a minor issue with the install. I noticed a bubble inside the rain sensor. Doesn't seem to affect its function, but I'm gonna have them fix it next time I take my car in for service. This is not my first windshield replacement on my cars, and in the past I've used glass shops or dealerships that sub out to a glass shops, but I've always requested factory glass and gotten it covered by my insurance all but once. This time was no different. Geico covered the whole thing minus my $100 deductible under my comprehensive coverage. Because it was done at the dealership, though, I had to send in the invoice and get reimburse, but that's worth the quality of the work.

It's aftermarket glass as far as I can tell, but it's also Pilkington so I'd be surprised if it's low quality. Thanks for confirming there should be no gaps, I'm fearful at this point that I'm just going to have to get my money back and take it to the dealership to see if they can unscrew it.

Post pic comparison of the exterior view of windshield base of both cars. Assuming both new and old glass are the same thickness, would appear differently no?
If the new glass was thinner it might appear to be installed similar as old glass on exterior but explain discrepancy inside.
Do you know for fact that your wife's car winshield is OEM and never replaced? (if bought used)

Side Note...
Also remember if you have "lane assist" etc, then the car has to be "re-calibrated" when a windshield is put on , I know lots of windshield places do NOT have the equipment and or knowledge to do this correctly.
most of the time, they dont tell you until after, then you have to goto the dealership and pay them a couple hundred to do it.
Be sure to check with your repair facility and make sure they know 1000% what they are doing and have the tools to do it.
I had to replace mine, and SafeLite had a dedicated room setup , just for the calibration purposes for cars with these sensors. (was impressive actually)
most of the time, they dont tell you until after, then you have to goto the dealership and pay them a couple hundred to do it.
Be sure to check with your repair facility and make sure they know 1000% what they are doing and have the tools to do it.
