New 2020 C63s Run in questions

Hi Guys,

Hopefully some of you can help me out with this! I just picked up my new C63s yesterday and obviously I have to complete the 1k miles running in period. I know the car can't be taken above 4.5k rpm etc, but I've tried it in sport + and Race briefly and it seems REALLY tame, the engine acts like it's in comfort mode! The car I had before this was a 2019 C63 coupe, so very similar, and the Sport + mode in that was totally different - really aggressive as you'd expect, especially on the automatic downshifts. This car had done over a thousand miles when I first got it so I didn't have to run it in.

Just wondered if anyone knew if there's some kind of automatic feature that keeps the engine like this until it's been run in? Does it turn off/change after a certain time?

Any help really appreciated!

Just let it do its thing for the first 1K miles...
I didnt switch mine into anything except comfort until the 1K was up...
(mt GF put the 1K miles on the thing in a week)

then after the 1K break it, it will take a bit more time, for it to wake up 100%... Treat it right in the beginning and it will last a lifetime..

Late to the thread, but do you (or anyone else) have a source for this by chance? I find that very interesting.

Personal experience running both the current 4.0 (0k to 20k+ miles) and previous 6.2 litre engine (2k to 30k+ miles).

Others I’ve talked to have said the same about their cars. They’re built to last and take a while to run in properly.

This reference sticker for my new 2019 C63S coupe was placed inside
Driver side Windshield : NOTES ON BREAKING IN A NEW VEHICLE. I felt it really took about 3,000 miles before everything felt responsive and broken in.

I notice the sticker says ">1,000 miles: increase load slowly"

What does that even mean? Are they saying that one must continue to accelerate gently after 1,000 miles? And if so, for how long?

I was having "lots of fun" once my car reached the 1000 miles Break In Period. Without doing anything different in my driving habits, my car just felt like everything like the suspension, steering, engine, smoothness and responsiveness had all gelled together at about 3,000 miles.

They say you should gradually increase the load on the engine (throttle position) and revs over time (I think some manufacturer's recommended up to 3000 miles). My feeling is that you can drive more normally, just don't go crazy on revving it or using maximum throttle when you get to 1000 miles. Many people say that modern engines are so well manufactured the run in process is less critical, but I'd still be cautious..
