What do you guys have catted or cattless? HELP

The reason I want to upgrade my c63 s is because I know it has a lot more to it. So I've been in the look for some dp's and I figured where else to ask than a community that has done it all. So what do you guys have/ recommend? Also from what companies? I've been looking at modal works high flow cats but I'm not sure. Thanks!

I would recommend Modalworks catted downpipes. The 200 cell cats have little restriction and there will be little to no difference in power compared to catless. In general, there’s not a lot to gain with just downpipes alone - maybe 15-20 hp. You do get the benefit of less smell and a better sounding exhaust tone in my opinion. Catless downpipes get pretty raspy sounding especially between shifts and I don’t find the sound particularly appealing. The catted downpipes adds a ton of sound but it’s really amplifies that AMG tone that sounds so good.

One other consideration, catless downpipes will require a tune to code out the CEL you’ll get. So unless you’re cool living with the CEL on your dash, go with catted downpipes with O2 spacers on a stock tune - a ran that setup for a bit and had no problem.

The place you’ll find power gains in this car is a tune. Downpipes, intake, and other stuff will supplement it and add a bit more on top. But it’s turning up the wick on the turbos that gets you the most bang for your $/hp.

You can also consider downpipe from Red Star exhaust with GESI cats.
It is about twice more expensive than Modal but it has one of the highest quality cats fitted on to downpipe.
Also, you do not need to use any O2 sensor spacer with GESI cats.

I have the Modalworks 200 cell catted downpipes. If I was going to do it over again I would have spent the extra $$ up front and gone with the Red Star GESI catted (300 cell I believe). The modalworks still have quite a bit of smell and had CEL on stock tune without o2 spacers.

That being said, love the sound. This was the first set of catted downpipes the shop that installed them (SSR) did, they're used to installing catless. I had a couple of them comment on how much better the catted ones sound. As Alex above said, they mentioned the catless were more raspy as well.

Do you guys know what does the O2 Restrictors option do? Do you need them with the Gesi Cats?

Can those cats be used on other DPs?

You need O2 spacers for HJS cats. O2 spacer is not needed to GESI.

Yea, GESI sells universal cats in various size which you can weld to other dp.

I’m glad I’ve been trying to research through people’s experiences. I was dead set on catless DPs but now after all the talk of sound quality, smell, etc....I’m really leaning towards catted.

That’s exciting! Glad to hear you don’t have any issues with smell.

I would love to hear a sound clip of a stage 2 without burble tune and a catted DP.

Did you install them yourself? Cut out the stock down pipes or drop the transmssion? Have any sound clips?

Nicely done. Sounds like a pain, but even on the short clip it sounds good. Still seems refined, just a bit louder.
