How are we supposed to protect the heat exchangers from the literal gaping holes?

I have noticed this car has a lot of free space for one of the heat exchangers to be easily damaged, specially on the facelift? Have most of you guys left it to God like me, or is there a mesh or something that can be installed?

There is a mesh that can be installed. Do a search and I'm sure you'll find it.

IIRC, the facelifts already come with the guards.

We have to buy these separately? How hard is it to get it installed?

Hmm I am not too sure then. Here is a picture of mine, and there are the black meshes that Jimmy_63 was referring to. I'd try to speaking with your SA and see if they can add this to you for free.

Yes I will take a look at that. Either way, once these are bought just wondering if anyone knows to install it?

Yep, my 2019 has them as well. Both the heat exchangers on the sides and the one in the center as seen above have the protective mesh on them. If you don't have them, then they forgot to install them or probably more likely they had a shortage and built the car w/o them. There are numerous part shortages due to COVID and I've heard of cars leaving the factory with parts missing or strange configurations such as a digital instrument cluster when according to the build it's supposed to have the analog cluster, but the digital cluster doesn't have all the functions, for example can't change the design. Somebody got their C43 recently that was ordered with the AMG Drive Unit, but according to the final build and invoice it doesn't have it. However, the car has the steering wheel with the AMG Drive Unit, but they are not functional and don't light up or change anything.

So should I go to the dealership and insist they fix it under warranty?

If you don’t have them installed, then yes

That is something that must come from factory

I work away so got my car booked in for when I got back to fit the grills, but had to cancel when I realised they were fitted. Mines a very early Feb 2019 facelift, so I'll echo the reply that your FL should have them fitted.

What i could do with is a mesh to stop leaves and detritus entering the intakes.

A class action lawsuit was recently started over this issue. Note that the suit includes model dates to present, not sure why exactly as many, including my own 2020 C63s, have guards fitted although it seems not all recent models have? Anyhow, maybe some relief in the works for those affected. https://www.classaction.org/news/cla...ers-air-inlets

If the class action is successful in the USA I wonder what the rest of the owners from around the world who have suffered the same cost can do?

I have a soft spot for AMG's but after the experience of such sh*tty build quality in mine including all the issues, lies from the dealerships, warranty claims etc. straight from the showroom floor I can't see myself buying another $150,000 vehicle from them again.
