Uh oh! Game Over?

Sucks, but that's the cost of playing the game sadly. What's darton going to charge to sleeve the block?
Got some good news from the shop today. The machine shop called and the machining went well and the block can take the sleeving. They've ordered the final spec Darton sleeves to do the rebuild. Now that we know this, along with the sleeve material, Weistec forged pistons and rods have also been ordered - we're staying with stock size. My turbos are off to Weistec for the W.3 machining upgrade. I miss my V8.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Forged pistons and rods came in from Weistec for the m177. The block was sleeved with Darton sleeves and has been honed to the final spec pistons. Let the rebuild begin! Can’t wait to get back on track.

At least now you'll never have this problem again and your motor will be bulletproof after the rebuild 🙏🙏🙏
Can't wait to see this finished!!!! Any eta???
If not done they had shown the results of melted pistons on stock cars.
I haven't needed change my own plugs yet but will be sure to index them as a precaution when I do..
I wondee if non indexed plugs contiributed to any of these failures

I wonder if there have been any tests on this in a newer motor?

I doubt it's poor engine design, but more a byproduct of trying to use the minimal amount of fuel to make maximum hp. As well as trying to meet emissions and mileage requirements
Direct injection allows for much leaner running
As for the guy who waa just driving in comfort mode. I suspect he hurt the motor earlier and it juat happen to completely fail when he wasn't on it
People don't seem to realise that you can keep driving a hurt motor without it completely blowing up for a while.
