Angry Cracked taillight

Well, that's a first. Discovered a crack in my driver side taillight earlier this week. No idea what happened. Something must have hit it while parked or a rock thrown up on the highway. I filed a comprehensive claim since I only have a $100 deductible, but was surprised about how low the estimate is. It came out to $329. Was expecting higher, but I guess the taillights are pretty straight forward. This way at least I have a reason to go in and get my peeling 12o'clock marker on the steering wheel fixed.

Damn that is pretty cheap, how the hell did you get a $100 deductible ? How much is your premium?

It's $100 deductible for comprehensive. I have $1000 deductible for collision. Comprehensive is not that expensive. Lowering it from $1000 to $100 added about $10 to the premium for 6 months. It was a no-brainer. I got tired of paying for windshield replacements constantly as I had some bad luck in the past with cracked windshields, so I lowered it to $100. Comprehensive covers anything other than another car hitting yours, so the claims are generally a lot lower along with the premium as these are all act of god type incidents and never at fault.

Not a big issue though...

329 for total replacement and installation? For repairing?

I would hate to see a $329 claim turn into a $$$ hit with a CarFax report. Would that claim show up on a CarFax?

No, or they don't bother anyone if they are comprehensive and it's nothing major like hail damage or flooding. In general I've long stopped worrying about CarFax. It's way overrated, IMO. I've had vandalism claims in the past that required repainting, many glass claims and even minor accident reports. Nothing ever yielded me less $$$ when I sold or traded a car. I got my last car appraised by two dealers which had a minor parking lot accident report. First dealer didn't even mention anything and made me a great offer. It was the dealer I bought the car from originally and where it had been serviced. Second dealer wanted to use it as negotiation leverage and reduce their offer by 10%, but ended up matching the offer. If I remember correctly they even offered slightly more. Ultimately, I sold it for asking to a private party. A major accident is another story of course. Half the stuff is missing from a CarFax report anyway. My current dealership doesn't even report to CarFax, so none of the services are showing up. A well kept, garaged car in California will sell for asking unless it had major damage in the past.

The $100 comprehensive deductible is *very* clutch. I have about 660 acres behind my home, and we had a bitterly cold winter this year on the heels of a very dry summer. Food sources for all types of critters were scare. Inevitably, some of the smaller ones look for shelter.

One day I saw a mouse in my garage and his first instinct was to run under my car. The next day, I popped the hood to find that mice had nested on my ECU. They had torn insulation from my garage's attic to build the Taj Mahal in there. Must've been a big litter, because there were countless mouse droppings, saliva trails, and superficial scratches everywhere. I was ready to pull the trigger on that deductible had they gotten *inside* the engine, but, fortunately, an engine bay detail got everything back to brand new.

And I got my revenge on the mice. One at a time.
