I don't know what you have in your M5 but I had 2 none-OEM upgrade versions for my F32 and neither ever really worked. Don't get me wrong - this is also an aftermarket box and the system was not designed for it but knowing that limitation it integrates pretty well. There are a few things I find are not optimal but most likely due to how the iPhone works and not the carplay box. For example, when turning on the car the carplay music on the phone sometimes does not auto-switch to the carplay output but docking station or speaker. A simple click on the phone fixes that, not sure if there is a setting on the phone for it? Other things showing that its an aftermarket integration are that you have to leave the Carplay to change most OEM settings. That includes things like sound settings and others. A/C can still be controlled from the knobs but you don't see what you are doing. Not an issue for me as I mostly set and forget these settings and the center console buttons still all work just don't see what you are doing w/o leaving carplay. I do like that going into and out of Carplay is quick and easy, if you really need to (Carplay music keeps playing and when you come back navigation continuous seamless too). I just put about 8h on the car driving with Carplay and found it very useful and pleasant so far. Got a few calls and answered a few messages w/o a problem while using Carplay Navi and listen to my music of my choice.

After a few more weeks my carplay has not failed me once. Autoconnects everytime. I also found that I can stream Sirius XM from the mobile app just like Spotify etc. I like that as it saves me having to use the OEM Sat radio. So, I never switch to OEM unless I want to change some settings.

i do the same, never switch back to oem unless i need adjust my temp
Just installed the unit today - super straight forward and works perfectly - just like new head unit in the 2019+.
Pretty straight forward plug and play, ran into a little snag and shout out to Zhouli for helping out and responding instantly.
Best bang for buck unit on the market - and connects via WiFi or Bluetooth - I keep the MB connected to Bluetooth and all my android auto over WiFi - also with WiFi it connects automatically and jumps right on once the car turns out.
For those who have installed this for a while, can you remark on how the telephone call quality is?
I saw some feedback from someone that it wasn't good... I want to make sure it's OEM like prior to getting this as I am on the phone quite a bit in my car for work and need it to be functioning well. Thanks.

Through the system - it isn't great - the quality on your end is good, but not for others - the work around I did was connect the audio via WiFi for music/android auto and then keep your Bluetooth connected to the MB - when a call comes in I hop out of the android auto/carplay and use the MB.
Worked no issue - a little work around and really is no hassle.

Works well for me on both sides. I asked callers how their quality is and they had no complains. As mentioned you can still use OEM while on wifi for Carplay but I don't bother anymore. Never had an issue.

I'm interested in a kit but I'm not very handy, esp for interior/infotainment installs, how difficult is this to put in myself?
Question about the compatibility with the OEM 360 camera. If I am in the Carplay menu, if I press the 360 Camera button, will it know to auto switch to the factory menu with camera turned on? Or do I have to first get out of Carplay manually and then press the 360 camera button for it to work?

If you are going into reverse it switches, if you are driving forward and want to check around you - you have to hop out - but it's really easy.
I found this doesn't change if I change the pin setting on the unit at all, but it's very minor - hoping in and out takes a few seconds... Far outweighs having the unit then not.

I am not asking about when we put the car in reverse. You obviously don't have the 360 camera. We can enable the 360 surround view while creeping forward.

What I am saying is the button does not work on your dash unless you're out of carplay, but the camera will trigger if changing through the driving activation...

So setting the DIP switch to enable the camera did not take care of it? I don't have that camera and could never tested. Would have thought works like the reverse...but agree, toggling in and out of Carplay is a breeze

LOL, I totally misread your original statement. I was talking about the 360 camera and you stated you have to "hop out/in" and I took that literally to mean you have to hop out of the car and look around and back in, it's easy... LOL so I thought you were trolling...
But yeah I wish you didn't have to hop out of the Carplay menu for it to auto activate. Makes for a more OEM integrated solution. If it works when you put it in reverse, I don't see why this is any different.
