Cool Suspension Harshness

Hey everyone, wanted to get some thoughts on the C63S suspension. I have a 2015 Edition 1 and on Comfort settings it's still very harsh. It's kind of frightening to go over a slightly rough road. LOL Is this common on the PFL? I don't expect it to ride like a Lexus but sheesh! Any solutions that anyone has found that have a more progressive ride?

My 2018 Sedan rides just fine in Comfort. Yes, not cushy as a lexus (I had some to compare) but smooth sailing considering even comfort is tuned for a sports sedan. I have KW HAS and 20" wheels and still can ride for hours w/o any issues or discomfort. Of course, you feel running over bumps but that is supposed to be like that - nothing frightening.

From your picture it looks like you have Dunlop tires on the car, do they happen to be run-flats? I can't remember if Dunlop is the OE run-flat tire. Anyway, from what I've read the run-flats that came from the factory are extremely harsh, many people have switched over to Michelin PSS/PS4S and seen a huge improvement in ride quality. You can get an aftermarket "fix-a-flat" type kit that is almost identical to the OE item (made by the same supplier) for a little piece of mind if you do end up switching.

OEM run flats? I don't think that is even option for the rating of the tires we need. My car came with PSS on same forged wheels as OP has.

(PS: And I have the tire fix kit from MB in the trunk...)

Right, run-flats and all-season tires unless fitted after the fact is not a thing on the V8 AMGs, but different tires do have different ride comfort. I did find the MO PSS overly harsh compared to the standard PSS I had on previous cars, and ride comfort even on the FL with the revised suspension is noticeably better with the PS4S. In general, though the PFL rides harsher, especially the sedan. The coupe was tuned better in Comfort mode to be more of a GT. Not sure if the difference is still there with the FL. I extensively drove a PFL sedan when I started shopping. Rented one on Turo and took it on one of my canyon runs. Did not like it. Way too harsh and as a result it was a rattle box, partly I guess being a rental, but it wasn't very confidence inspiring. One of the best things about the FL is the revised suspension. The newer generation dampers have a wider range, so Comfort mode is comfortable w/o being floaty. Still feel the road, but at least with the PS4S it doesn't crash over every bump, and in S+ it corners flat while still being very compliant. I would say the first thing is to make sure you are using the correct tire pressures. These cars do get rough if you run the wrong tire pressure. Check the fuel door sticker and run the normal load pressures. If you do have a lot of potholes around where you live the normal load pressure may make your wheels more susceptible to damage. If that's still too harsh, then perhaps give the PS4S a try.

Those with harsh suspension, maybe you are using the pressures from the full load chart. (45 psi+). id recommend the lower settings (~35psi) which is for less passengers/luggage, but note these recommendations are for high speed limits, so having 5 people in a car is fine if you aren't going on the autobahn.

Thanks, TP was a few PSI over the recommended (was @ 45). My plan is to go to the PS4S as I've loved them on my M5, and RS5. I bought this car a couple of weeks ago and the Dunlops are brand new. So, guess I'll have to burn them off to justify some new PS4S's. ;-)

I always run on the high side - cold about 40, hot after warm up on highway 43-45. I am on 20's and it makes it a bit harsher but better that than damaging your wheels on a pothole...

If the OP came from a Lexus to a C63 AMG 'anything', it's gonna feel not rough, but tight. Real tight. It's a de-tuned race car. Welcome to AMG!

I purchased mine CPO and it didn't come with one, looked into it at the time and the most common answer was cars with run-flats equipped from the factory didn't come with the slime kit. Most of those same threads were about how crappy the run-flats were and how changing to standard summer tires made a world of difference. My car had PSS with no slime kit so I figured the prior owner was in the same boat. Apologies for the assumption, didn't realize that wasn't applicable to amg cars in general. Any way, the aftermarket kit made by the OE manufacturer was only around $50, so I just went with it, wasn't worth the time to try and get the dealer to provide one.

OP, glad it seems it was just a pressure issue, hope you get as much enjoyment out of the car as I have over the past year of ownership!
