Is it worth it

hey guys so i just got a 2020 AMG C63 in selenite grey metallic with the 5-spokes. Got it for around $73k with 8k miles, 41 months of warranty. The only thing I don't like about the interior is that it has the grey oak trim (I prefer CF)

I've priced out everything to get the car to look how I want...

XPEL Stealth: $7k from XPEL dealer - taxes bring it to $7.5k
Rims: $2500 for a used set on FB marketplace + install (guessing $200 here?) - lets call it $3k with shipping - I could sell my rims but guessing no more than $1k but again that is a hassle so I won't assume for it.

So $10.5k to get my car to what I like...

I could also TRADE-IN my car for what I bought it for and get my EXACT spec in a new 2021 - it's the designo diamond white metallic with carbon fiber everything fully loaded beside the driving package (which i don't care for) + performance seats (which I'm 50/50 on but not a deal-breaker by any means).

It would cost me $12k more over the course of the loan...

It's obviously a BRAND NEW car 2021 build with more features and my exact spec vs the spec I have now which I have to put work in to.

Would you all do it?

If I had to chose between spending $10.5k to get my current car to where I want it to be or $12k to trade it in for brand new newer model year with all the bells and whistles you’re looking for then I’d go obviously for the latter (2021 with exact options you’re after). For me performance seats are a must on a w205, which the 2021 seems to have as a bonus.

Are you saying $12k more over the additional $10,500 you'll need to put into the one you currently have to get it how you want it? Or is it about a $1,500 difference? If the latter, I'd say it's a no brainer. And even if it's going to cost you $22,500 more, if that price difference isn't a deterrent, then go for it. You'll have a new car, with new car warranty, optioned exactly as you want it in the color you prefer (mine is diamond white and it's beautiful) and you'll know how it was treated from the start.

I should have clarified...

It is an ADDITIONAL $12.5k over 6 years for the white one COUNTING the 10k roughly i would need to sink into my current one.

So numbers wise:
Costs (these include financing, wheel & tire ,etc):
Keep my car & do nothing: 73k (which i wouldn't do because I don't like the way it looks exterior)
Keep my car & get rims + Stealth: 83k
Trade my new car & get white one exact specs I want: $95k

This cost is over 6 years..

Obivously the other variable is my car has 9k miles so a new car would likely mean slightly less service visits and maintenance costs + longer time under warranty by about 8 months (which could be valued around 1k I'm guessing)

Money not a huge issue but obviously always good to save

Yeah the performance seats are GREAT but I'm getting the sedan to which I've found limited cars on the market have them and I can't build it out anymore. Also a family car as my wife & I are expecting so they're not SUPER important to me. I could live without them,

Bingo - basically 12k additional over 6 years (or 22k if i did nothing). Can you post a pic of your diamond white one? Never seen one in person

I think that's kind of a no-brainer. Go for the new 2021. The $10.5k you are planning to put into yours is essentially money thrown out the window. You never gonna get any of that back, whereas the new car will have a higher resale value when time comes to sell it, so you'll get some of the additional $22.5k back when you sell it. You might still end up doing PPF on the new one, but maybe not the whole car. Not really worth hanging on to a car you don't like and have to put money into it to get it to where you almost like it, but it's still not the spec you really want. I concur with the poster above about the AMG Performance Seats. They are awesome, but if I read you correctly you are saying the 2021 doesn't have them. Does your current one have them? But if you are 50/50 on them, then they shouldn't sway you one way or the other.

Mine does NOT have them. 2021s still HAVE them - but of the cars on the market right now I've only found 1 with performance seats as a sedan S model. I would love to have them - but that's the gravy on top for me and I don't need them.

For me: (beside condition/etc)
S model
Color
Rims
Interior trim (this new one has the white trim which looks great! Mine has the yellow one which is SICK but I don't like the grey grain ash wood trim and prefer CF)
Carbon FIber interior
HUD
Performance seats

I did get a great deal on mine tho - and had a good equity position in my other car + tax savings. I would see the tax saving with getting the new one as well.

I think you already have a great car. Save your money. I change out the wheels and leave everything else alone but that’s me.
If you’re going to drop another 22k I get a e63s preface lift.

Sure thing. Here are two different angles and lighting. You definitely see more of its depth in person.

It is always nice to start new knowing how the car was driven from the start. If money isn't that important as stated, get new. You will always be second guessing yourself especially with the color. Totally different look. Just the color alone between what you have and want would be reason enough. Guarantee every time you see a diamond white metallic C63 drive by your heart rate will bump up a little. I have all the CF trim inside and out on my 2021 cab and must say, it really looks great. Good luck!

Yeah true. I'm not comparing against my car now - it would be basically in design selenite grey magno after I XPEL stealth it.

I guess the question is am I going to need PPF on the white one - because if so then 12k more becomes almost 20k more which would be a no for me.

12k for a newer car after I put the 10.5k into mine to make it how I want it isn't bad over 6 years - it's $180 per month - but 20k may be a different convo.

At minimum, I’d recommend you do full front PPF which includes full hood, front bumper, headlights, side mirrors, door cups, and door edges that set me back $1.2k. Contemplated adding side fenders but I didn’t feel like that was a high risk area for rock chips.

I only got a ceramic coat at first since I need my car for work but a few months and few rock chips later and one on a headlight I decided to get full xpel on the car.
If you don't want to go full car I'd suggest atleast a full front.
I'd also recommend getting the side skirts and lower rear bumper towards the wheel arch done aswell. Since I got my wider wheels all 4 corners near the wheels were rough to the touch from road debris.

Throwing in my .02 ---- all of the driving package options (distronic, park assist, lane keep assist, active cruise control, intelligent LEDs, heads up display, performance seats, blah blah blah are indeed a significant part of what makes this car so freaking awesome. Yes the engine is great, but it's the tech behind it when you drive it that also makes it so great. It does indeed add a bunch of money to the sticker price, but IMO it's the way to spec the car - if for nothing else, resale. A lot of people say they don't want or need these features and I often wonder why? Is it the cost or do they really have something against great tech in a car? Whichever way you go with your decision good luck and enjoy!

I just went through the same deal. Started looking at CPO's but for only ~15K more, I got a 2021 spec'd out just how I wanted it and full warranty. As far as trade in goes? Now is the time to trade if you have it. I got 4.5K more than I wanted on my trade in. Do not use KBB or NADA as a guide unless you add about 25-30% on top of what those guides say the value is for your trade in. I figured this is the last of the Bi-turbo's in the C63's and I wanted one and glad I went new. Get the 21 IMO.

I spent almost 20k in mods on my F80 so let me be a bad influence. Yes. Yes, it is worth it.

When I sold I only got about 8k back, hehe. But, I'd do it all over again. Its only money.

Wouldn't be "MODS" persay more just the XPEL stealth and rims. Won't touch the engine.

Really conflicted.

New one has every option i want...

If you can afford it then yes. If you don't you will probably end up regretting and wont stop thinking about it. The updates in the fl are more than worth it imo.
I had the chance to buy a very very low mileage stock 02 r34 vspec 2 off a friend for 150k aud 2 years ago and I am still regretting it today.

I can afford it. It's a 2020 vs a 2021 so it's a facelift regardless. New one is just color i want, carbon fiber wheel/trim, rims I want, LED lights and parking package (which my car does not have).

If it was me and don't lose money or very little on the current car I would of made the switch already. The specs you want and a brand new car.
Don't see how it wouldn't be worth it to you, I know it would be worth itfor me.

Sure, I get it. In that sum I posted, XPEL (non stealth) and rims were included. As well as a bunch of carbon bits and some engine things.

If you kept your current car, you could sell your OE rims to recover some of the cash; the AMG wheels resale rate is quite good. Tough choice, but thats the fun in living
