Anyone ceramic coat their rims? Brake dust Arrrrrrrrrgh!

I hate brake dust - my steel rotors and OEM pads make an OCD guy like myself go insane when my wheels look brown - has anyone ceramic coated their rims and actually had an appreciable difference? Is there a better option? What is ball park cost for some of the options? Thanks!

Had my wheels ceramic coated before ever putting a tire on...does not stop the brake dust but I think its easier to clean. I still clean them every week (including inner barrel) as I can't stand it.

I'm about to have mine done. In speaking with my detailer, they will take the wheels off, do a really deep clean of everything including the barrels, then ceramic coat. Will likely leave a matte black wheel with a bit more of a 'satin' finish (I've seen it on a brand newGT black series, and looks great IMO).

It’s not going to reduce the amount of brake dust, rather make them easier to clean and add protection for the finish. Highly recommend it regardless. About to do mine with CarPro Dlux and Gliss v2. From what I’ve seen, switching to Porterfield R4-S pads are going to be your best bet for reducing the amount of dust, as well as change the color of the dust so it’s less noticeable.

Had mine done before wheels went on aswell. Way easier to clean my wheels now, can pressure wash most of the brake dust off.

My personal experience: Ceramic coating the wheel doesn't do anything about brake dust sticking to it. Same amount of brake dust will stick to it.
Only way to fix the issue is to replace rotor and brake pad with aftermarket parts that produce less dust.

Definitely less dust but if you the type of driver that brake hard all the time, these pads will warped your rotors sooner. The rotor can not be re-surface

I was thinking that was the case - appreciate it.

Porterfields and both my stock wheels and BC's are coated. Can definitely go a lot longer without touching the stock wheels as the dark wheel hides the dust a little longer. Since the BC's have a polished lip they get light brown within a week. The BC's will come clean with a power washer and nothing else. The stockers still require a physical wash which I attribute to them being matte. Either way it's a no brainer and should cost more than $120 a wheel tops.

This is great news! I have BC Forged's with a polished lip and they become light brown in 3-4 days (call it 50 miles). Even the brushed centers become caked with dust.

Where did you get your porterfield's from? Direct?

I recently swapped out all the pads for EBC Red Stuff. I was done with the amount of brake dust and more concerned about the amount of black dust all over my garage floor when I washed it. Red Stuff is fully ceramic. I have three qualifiers for pads on all my current and recently past cars:

1. Stops good cold.
2. Quiet
3. Little to no dust

If you have a jack and some simple tools, you can do this yourself. The rear floating rotors you'll need to retrack to install the new pads is done from the steering wheel. There's a YouTube video or two that shows this. Pretty slick.

I just bought new BC Forged rims. Had them Ceramic coated and let them cure for 5 days before I put them on. I have only had them for a week so far so I cant give you much long term feedback. They do seem somewhat easier to clean.

This place is a joke.
There's a post in the 222 forums about a brake dust reducing spray that works. Try searching...

No I got mine from a retailer that was talked about somewhere on here, don't recall which one though. It was the best price I could find.

My ceramic coated wheels with porterfield pads after about 40 miles .... porterfield suck as well and you can see how the dust just accumulates on the ceramic coating

Ceramic coating helps make them easier to clean off with a pressure cleaner, but you still need to hit them with soap and a brush.

We usually have a Black Friday sale for certain kits, not sure if Porterfield Pads will be included in it yet.

Thanks,
