NTG5 CARPLAY + CODING?
If you want to leverage your current NTG 5.0 system (and not drop $4k+), you can add wireless ACP and Android Auto functionality via a piggyback module like this one offered by DMP (can't share the link...MBWorld blocks).
I'll likely go through DMP when I add CarPlay. DMP has great customer service & install instructions, so if you're going to DIY, this is the route I'd recommend. I haven't done this type of install in my w205 yet but have on other platforms (i.e. e9X m3) and it was very straightforward.
Once you have ACP/AA, it's very hard to go back to native/OEM software.

The sole apps I used were Spotify and Waze, worked just as expected with a very minor response time delay.
piggy back in terms of computers etc , thats embedding a chip on top of another and doing some manual mods to the system.
why would anyone do that , when for 300.00 you have a plug and play option.
i have not had 1 single issue with mine, wireless / bluetooth all work effortlessly.
waze , music , video all are amazing

Ultimately if I'm going to the expense of a $4-500 unit for my W205 then I really want to ensure reliable operation - i.e. once it's set up, you get reliable AA (preferably wireless if possible)
That sucks that yours was "off" or had a gremlin , I know over 20 people that have the Road Top, and it works flawless, not sure why everything thinks you have to plug your phones in with cable <- because you dont !
Now, these units are mass produced, and of course QA issues arise , but the support I got from Road Top when I asked for the firmware updates was always same day, and they send me what I needed.
(updated my devices to current iOS, and saw that waze was lagging a few seconds longer to load, so I asked and they had an update)
Very simple to install update and onward we go.

- Airplay activation is finnicky
- Occasional auto reset of system
- Pick-up and Hang-up sometimes doesn't work from the screen - I would need to use the phone.
Are you able to use airplay plugged in? Or is it only wireless?
Calls are clear, audio is good...
Had to adjust the volume in the settings of the RoadTop to up alittle for audio as the alerts from Waze etc were much louder then the audio.
That was the extent of me having to make changes
