C63s 'self driving'

One of my favorite features when on the highway - I've found that you can either let go of the wheel completely for a few minutes (before it requests a touch) or gently rest a finger on it and it'll stay engaged as long as the radar is happy.

Short clip demo of auto lane change and steering

Really cool! Didn't know lane changing was part of the self driving. When I ordered my 21 C63s cabriolet, I went heavy on the carbon fiber packages and didn't order the self driving seeing that I do not take road trips too often. Great option though

Yeah, it's a great system for long highway journeys. It makes this car a really great GT. It allows handsfree driving for 30 seconds on divided highways, but also takes traffic into consideration and relaxes if there's nobody around you. In really heavy stop&go at slow speeds it also pretty much drives itself for several minutes. It's great in those situations. I bought the car for grand touring among other things, so the driver assistance package was a must. Allows me to relax on boring stretches of road and then have all the energy to have fun when the roads get more interesting. It goes from a relaxing highway cruiser to a beast on a canyon road at the push of a button. Love this dual personality.

I wouldn’t call it “self driving”. Have to touch the steering wheel every 30 sec. Still annoying me. Only used 2x to tested out the feature. I wanted to test the self parallel parking feature but too scare it might f$@ck up the wheels.

In the FL you just need to tap one of the touchpads on the steering wheel every time it prompts. These are still level 2 systems and require full attention of the driver, so that's why it keeps nagging. At least as opposed to some other brands it doesn't immediately start beeping annoyingly and instead discreetly prompts in the instrument cluster. On long trips or in traffic I pretty much use it with my hands off the steering wheel and then just tap one of the touchpads every so often to let it know I'm still paying attention.

The new self-parking system in the FL is also way better than in the PFL. There's a UI that shows all parking spaces it found and then you select the one you wanna park in. It also scans both sides simultaneously as opposed to the old system that only scanned the right side unless you had the left blinker on. It can park parallel and perpendicular and in the latter case you can chose forward or reverse. It works quite well, but beyond playing with it initially and using it while I was learning the dimensions of the car, I haven't used it since. I can park quicker myself, however I have used it in the past to park in dark areas where I could barely make out the curbs despite the 360 camera. However, that was also before I started wearing contact lenses and couldn't really see all the details in the camera image. Now that I have good eyesight again w/o glasses, parking with the 360 camera is a breeze.

Ah cool, I didn't know that! Oddly, I've still never tried the self parking feature -- gotta make that happen soon.

Yeah, I pretty much had to discover this by chance. They don't mention it directly in the owners manual. It does say something like using the steering wheel controls prevents the prompt, but I didn't realize at first that a tap on the touchpads serves to specifically acknowledge that the driver is paying attention. I did read once that the steering wheel has touch sensors to recognize if the driver's hands are on the wheel, but I'm still not sure it does, or if it simply detects minute movements in the steering wheel. It does seem to recognize it if I grab the steering wheel at the 3 and 9 o'clock position, so I got the impression that it has touch sensors there, but I'm not sure. The latest steering wheels now have capacitive sensors all around, so all you have to do is lightly touch the wheel somewhere.
