Mercedes trade in value vs private sale

Hello, l've been thinking of moving on from my c63s but just cant find anything that exciting and noisy. Thought id stay within amg then and so went to a dealer to make a deal on a 2019 amg gtc nicely optioned designo matte with red seatbelts and all. Point being i checked auto trader and 2017 c63s are selling between 80-85k CAD. went asking for 80k trade in and the best they could do was 63k. I couldnt take that offer seriously so i walked out.

Canada introducing a 'luxury' tax in September so if i want to switch im gonna have to move fast. Is that the usual experience at the dealerships i guess? Was wondering if people here mostly sell private or these low ball offers are just expected?

At my local dealer they are in trouble.... tough to get any new cars so they are relying on used sales... they offered at least 25-30k less than what they sell the same vehicle for... I would certainly try to deal with local buyers if ya can... In my case I'd like something different as well but it's hard to walk away from my gle63s that's payed for ya know ?

I am in the same boat as you! I recently did some mods to my c63s but decide to sell it in search for a nice option 911 carerra 4s but prices are still crazy high, I may wait for it to drop a little but in the mean time I've decided to sell the car. I have a 2018 c63s coupe (designo diamond white) with almost every options besides carbon ceramic brakes. I went to the benz dealer local to me but they lowball and offered 60k. As a result, I sold my car directly to carguru. They offer me 65k cash. Someone from Carguru is picking up my car within the week to inspect and take it. I believe they are reselling it to a dealer in Texas as I had some paperwork to transfer the title etc. The process seems very easy and painless as I never had to leave my home.

I sold my 2018 C63s to a dealer for pretty much the same (35k miles, pretty all options + my aftermarket parts as-is), I did not bother to remove the wheels or PSM kit. I did sell it to dealer as I bought a 911 from them...and the additional tax savings came out to another $4k in value, So, private sale and all the hassle it comes with, would have to be $70k to make it worthwhile for me. Instead, drove my C63s to dealer, signed a few papers, and took the 911 keys and drove of. Never looked back. I loved my C63s but sometimes its just time to move on.

In the current (absurd) car market we are in, the only way to capture the high KBB price of a used car is to sell it yourself. If you are not willing to spend your time to deal with that hassle, dealerships will charge you for the convenience. The only slight exception is Carmax.

It's all about leverage even in the current market. I've heard some dealerships offering over market value on trade in. Shop it around. Get offers from places such as CarMax, Carguru, Carvana etc. then take the highest offer back to your dealership and see if they wanna beat it. If you are not in a rush also put an ad on Autotrader and see if anyone bites. The sales tax credit if that's a thing in your state needs to be factored in as well.

This is effectively how I sold my previous car, albeit before the current market craziness and we don't get sales tax credit, so I handled the sale/trade completely separate from the new car purchase. I took it to the Audi dealer I bought it from and they made me a pretty good offer. Then took it to the MB dealer where I bought my C63 and they initially offered me significantly less, so I told them how much Audi offered and they were willing to beat it. However, eventually I sold it to a private party for more than either of them offered. The guy was local, too, and pleasant to deal with. I had some out of state interest, but I stayed away from that. The private party sale almost fell through and I was ready to just sell it to the dealership, because my C63 had arrived from my ED trip, and I needed the garage space. Last minute the guy decided to buy it as the window was closing.

2019 C63S Coupe
The MB Dealership that I purchased my new 2019 (April) C63s coupe have been sending me letters offering to purchase my car and pay up to $65,900. upon inspection

I have just over 19,000 miles and have some/few optional equipment but not all.
I am not interested at this time but just curious what their Sticker price would be if they did put it up for sale at the Dealership in today market?

Used car prices in Auatralia are ludicrous atm! I bought my C63S AMG 2019 for $140,000 Australian 6 months old and I could sell it today easily for $160,000!

I wanted to trade my Audi SQ5 and the dealer wanted to give me $25,000. Ended up selling it for $40,000. That was before the mayhem of new and used car situation in Auatralia.

I just sold my 2015 and did okay . I had lots of dealers messaging me wanting to buy it but they only offered wholesale siting they needed to make a profit . One dealer a local Mercedes dealer made me a silly offer and I checked their website to see what they had in stock . They had a 2016 with 73000 kms asking in the eighties and they offered me low $50 's . I asked them how they could offer that when theirs has 3x the mileage mine does and nowhere near as nice . They responded they know they priced it high so I can't use it as a comparable .......

I had a lot of offers ...well over 100. People were just throwing stupid numbers at me without even coming to view it . I think every east indian that lives in this province sent me a low offer and then tried to justify it in their message .... first guy that actually viewed it bought it .

Sell private you'll get alot more than the dealers will pay you

I sold my 2019 C63s coupe in January for $71k with 15k on the odo. The car is now at the second dealer 5 months later (same dealership owner) and they are still trying to sell it for $84k lol.. MSRP was $90k and I got 7% off the sticker back in 2019.

Was thinking of selling my 2021 C63S Cabriolet back in November for a BMW M850. I decided not to because I liked the driving fun factor of the C63S more (1,100 miles). I bought the MB in May 2021 for 7% off the $99,400 sticker. It was a spec'ed out car I ordered. My dealership was going to give me what I paid for it. My SA told me they would have put it on the lot for about $110,000 because no other C63S Cabs were around at the time.
