C63S Front License Plate Removal

Hi All

I just got a new to me 2021 C63S Cab. It came with an already installed factory front license plate mount. How much of a disaster is left if I remove it? The car was delivered yesterday, so I didn't have time to investigate.

Thanks

Jan

You'll be left with holes in the bumper from the self-drilling screws that are used to attach it. I've had the front license holder on mine during my European Delivery trip, but the VPC removed it and fixed the bumper once it arrived in the USA, and I didn't reattach it, even though legally I'm supposed to have a front license plate in my state.

Thanks for the reply!
I plan on detailing the car this weekend and removing the plate holder for a closer look. I have a feeling that a bumper repair will be in my future as I don't think that I can tolerate the bumper plugs!

Thanks again!

If you have to re-mount the front plate after you get the 2 holes fixed in your bumper, there are drill-free no hole, or other less intrusive mounting options out there. I was ticketed on my last M6 so I had to install a front plate. I went with a Skene plate mount which drills underneath the bumper, not in front. The holes would never be visible unless you get down on all fours and look under the front bumper. On my C63 coupe, I don’t plan on ever mounting a front plate unless I’m forced to as a result of a fix-it ticket.

Here’s a pic of the plate mounted on the Skene bracket which drills into the bottom of the bumper.

When you remove the front plate mount you will have 4 holes in your bumper from the screws (mine had more from what appeared to be multiple attempts at mounting it). I bought my car second hand and it had the front plate mount installed. I took the car to a body shop and had them fix it. Looked like new after completed. Take yours to a good body shop and they'll be able to fix it up.

Thanks for the reply....I'm going to check out that mount. I appreciate the info! Now can we talk about that E63!! I had a 2008...that engine is everything! Awesome car...enjoy it!

Thanks

Thanks for the reply and photos! I'm going to call my body guy. Did they have to replace the bumper cover or did they repair the holes and respray? It looks perfect. I'm in NJ and need a front plate...that being said, none of my cars have one. NJ has the ugliest plates in the country to boot!

The front of the car is one of it's best features IMHO.

Thanks again for the info!

The bumper was not replaced. Just taken off, repaired and sprayed. I have the Designo Diamond White paint and they did an excellent job matching it to the rest of the car.
