Considering swapping my 2008 911 Turbo for a 2017 C63s. Noticed some factors in these which I feel dates the cars, especially the center screen. Anyone know if its possible to swap these screens for higher resolution ones? Not that it bothers me that much now but i predict it will in due time. Thinking very long term ownership.

Yes, the pre-2019 models feel pretty dated now. As explained in the linked thread above, you can retrofit the 2019+ screen and digital dash, which will also add CarPlay and Android Auto. Some things may not work due to the upgraded electrical architecture in the 2019+ models and separate modules are needed to interpret signals at the CAN level. You can contact MBHouse in Canada. They do these kinds of retrofits. The 2019+ models also have a new online platform called Mercedes me connect. Not sure if that will work after the retrofit as it requires MB to activate it for the specific VIN, so you likely will not have life traffic and OTA updates for maps etc. If you wanna save yourself all the hassle, look for a 2019+. There's also the new steering wheel of the 2019+ along with the AMG Drive Unit which allows you to change drive modes etc. directly from the steering wheel, and other upgrades such as better suspension, same engine, but much better new 9-speed transmission, AMG DYNAMICS, improved rear locking differential and 9-stage traction control just to name a few.

While the facelift cars may look great now, I feel that as cars get further away from analog gauges and have increasingly more screens in them, the more likely they're going to look more dated as technology continues to evolve.
I think coming from a 2008 Porsche you'll be more than satisfied with the screen in a 2017/18 Mercedes. The improvement was personally very noticeable coming from a 2009 BMW to my 2017 C63.
I'm not sure about that. Screens are here to stay pretty much. Screens are everywhere now. Around the house, our personal devices etc. We are surrounded by screens, so a car with screens doesn't look out of place as analog gauges do. The question is how long until the whole windshield is a gigantic transparent screen. The UI in the FL is very modern, even though it's not MBUX yet, but frankly doesn't look any different next to MBUX. I think touchscreens may not survive in cars, or will increasingly get dumbed down, so they can't be operated while driving for safety reasons. To me the FL has just the right combination of displays and tactile physical controls for the important functions. I don't necessarily feel the cars that have gone to primarily touchscreens with no or little physical controls will survive, at least not as long as they are driven by humans. Voice control will likely take over.

Slightly off topic, but how did you get your nav to show terrain like it would through google maps? That's one reason why I usually only use CarPlay and not the factory nav screen (I have a FL BTW)

You just need to turn it on in the settings, but you have to zoom out to at least the 2 mi scale, which is what I usually have it at. I use the center display mostly as an overview of the route and traffic situation and use the instrument cluster for the detailed map as shown in the first photo. If you zoom in then the satellite view gets disabled in order to show more map details such as POIs and 3D buildings in city centers. I like how they do that. Satellite view tends to clutter the map when zooming in.

Hi @superswiss - thanks for posting this - I've owned my 2020 C63S coupe for about a month, coming from a 2015 M4. Your instrument cluster in the picture above looks like mine, with the exception of the left panel, that I use to display my Carplay songs as they're playing. In your pic above, your left panel seems to be navigation directions, as opposed to the graphical navigation in the right instrument cluster panel (that I also use) - in my center display I usually use carplay with waze on the left, and songs and calendar on the right, but I like your topographical map. I'm still new to this setup and exploring possibilities, but I miss the real-time MB navigation in my setup - seems I would have to sacrifice carplay in the instrument panel for that - is that correct?

I'm not exactly following what you are asking. What do you mean by real-time MB navigation? In my setup I have turn-by-turn instructions from the MB nav on the left in the instrument cluster. So yes, if you want that, then you can't display the list of CarPlay songs at the same time there.

Thanks for your quick response, and sorry for not being clear - I'm still trying to figure out the best settings for me - I'll try to figure out the best / most efficient way of alternating between carplay songs and turn-by-turn instructions from the MB nav in that panel for those trips that I'd like those directions to appear. In the M4, they were in the onscreen display...

I don't have the HUD, but if you have the HUD then you can have turn-by-turn instructions in the HUD and your list of CarPlay songs in the instrument cluster on the left. The HUD is one more display that you can use to show information that you don't already show in any of the other screens.
ahh... thank you - I do have HUD but haven't yet used the turn-by-turn navigation - just saw it in your photo - I'll go through the HUD settings, but having them display in HUD would solve this - thank you again!
