B Service: Dealership "Recommendations"?
1. Rear brake pad worn 4-5 mm and rotors worn and grooved. * I had the rear brakes and rotors replaced at this Dealership at 18,000 miles. So 6,000 miles later I need rear pads and rotors? Or should I just wait till the Check Brake Pad light comes on. I believe the warning light happens at 2mm? Total cost would be $2,176.24.
2. Fuel induction and injection system: Would the computer diagnosis trigger that this needs to be done? At 24,000 miles for me the car seems to be performing great. The cost $504.00 with parts $79.00 VPS smoke free fuel kit and labor $425.00. Is this good to have done or just a waste of money?
3. Wheel Alignment: I had a wheel alignment done this past December at a All Tire Co. when I had my snow tires installed. Recently had my summer tires installed and not sure if I should get another Wheel alignment (as Dealership recommended) as the recently installed summer tire as almost brand new?
Any advice will be appreciated.

- Pretty standard for dealerships to recommend brake service, but at 4-5 millimeters you still have about half the pads left. At 3 mm it's generally recommended to replace the pads, and at about 2 mm the sensor comes on. I wear mine down, unless I have some aggressive driving planned and the pads are low already. My rears were at 2 mm and the sensor came on a few weeks ago. Just had front and rear rotors and pads replaced two weeks ago. I did the fronts at the same time. They were at 3 mm. The rainy season is about to end here, so I'll be hitting up the canyons soon and wanted fresh brakes all around. The rear rotors last for two sets of pads normally. I'm at ~30k miles and I still had the original rear rotors till now.
- Don't know what that is, but sounds like some dealership snake oil
- It's good to have the alignment checked regularly, but if you just did it this past December then it's not needed again unless you drive on really bad roads. The front toe tends to go out easily on these cars, resulting in excessive inner tire wear in the front. I have my alignment checked about once a year, but since I did much less driving during the pandemic and I have only driven about 5000 miles since the last alignment, I didn't have them check it during my Service B in January. My front tires still look good and are also fairly new.

Also the black piano trim piece just under the inside radio button (see below photo) has a crack in it. When I brought it in yesterday the SA stated I might be able to get that interior piece covered under Warranty. But today was advised it will not be covered under Warranty. The part is $326.06 and labor $750.00 = $1,076.06. I will live with for now and will check with an Indy/quality Body Shop on how much to install this piece and buy it myself.
With practically brand new summer tires the SA noted that an
alignment was needed. So going to have that done along with B Service.
Thanks.

As for the brake cost, yeah you'll pay through the nose if you do them at a dealership. Maybe you can post a pic of your rear rotors, but I doubt they are grooved to the point they need replacement with only 6000 miles. Some grooves are normal. Look, as said I did 30k miles on my original rear rotors and I drive it hard.
Check out FCP Euro for cheaper brake parts. They also have lifetime replacement. I just went through the process for the first time. I sent them back the previous front set I bought from them and they received it yesterday and today I got confirmation that they refunded me the full amount. So aside from $160 to ship the parts back plus installation I had free front brakes for the last two years. Unfortunately they only do store credit now as of 11/01/22, but I had placed the original order before that, so I'm getting a cash refund. All in with the refund and installation at my indy the full brake job front and rear was only about $1600. For the next one I'll get refunds for both the front and rear parts.

I almost ordered from FCP Euro brake kit in the past but wanted it done ASAP and the Dealership stated they could change it the next day so just had it done.
I have committed to having the Alignment done at MB. So not sure if it's been done already but had to drive over pot hole roads this winter so now am just going to have it done while at the Dealership.
My car is currently at MB and awaiting a wheel to be cosmetically repaired from curb rash, (my doing). The 4 year Tire and Wheel policy ends April 11 so figured get it done.
As for the rear brake rotors I will bring it to an Indy to visually inspect it once I get the car back. Also I believe I took some photos or maybe it was a video this monday of my entire car to ensure it will be returned the same condition as it was when I dropped it off.
* On march 28 I had tires swapped so took these photos of the wheels. Photos are both rear wheels that Dealership stated rotors should be replaced. Not sure if rotor wear can be detected in the photos. The outer part or rotor hat is rusty. Also a
photo of front wheel cosmetic rim curb rash.
