Must have options for C63

Hey there!

I'm looking to trade my porsche 718 gts in for a C63. I've had a few BMW's but I've never owned a MB and I've fallen in love with the C63. Any must have options, or options to avoid when searching? Personally the only mandatory option for me is to have Android Auto but I'm interested to hear what owners have to say.

Thanks!

Better be the 2.5 you're trading in and not the 4.0

Anyways, I would definitely look for cars with performance seats, mine doesn't have it and I really wish it did. Also, you definitely want to have the HUD.

Other great options to have are multimedia package (bigger screen and touchpad), night package (I don't like the chrome), parking package (I find the the cameras to be really useful), and ventilated seats.

I second everything @vodand12 said. I didn’t have performance seats on my ‘21 and never knew what I was missing until I drove my ‘23. They totally transform the ride and are super comfortable. For me, this is now an absolute must-have option. I also agree about the HUD, I find it so useful. The aerodynamics package is a must. I also didn’t have it on my ‘21 coupe, but do have it on my ‘23. It really completes the car, makes it stand out and sets it apart from other coupes. Ventilated seats are a necessity in hot climates. They do make a huge difference on 100 degree days.

Exhaust and seats.

Don’t see the benefit in a HUD, personally.

Performance seats for sure. I like my ventilated seats. Not quite as powerful as my truck's seats, but still nice.

I have the HUD but don't use it. Maybe I should try it....

I really like my carbon ceramic brakes on the front. Minimal brake dust, they look clean, love the gold. But I don't think its a deal breaker. Might be hard to find everything.

Performance seats, AMG Performance exhaust and the 360 degree camera you get with the parking package are all must-have options. Everything else is just a bonus and nice to have.

Mostly depends on you, really. For me, pretty much all options were must-have, except for the HUD and the CCBs, but I have everything else. I wear polarized sunglasses, so the HUD is useless and I actually hate if something is floating in my line of site. The CCBs are overkill for the road and even aggressive canyon driving, and they are only in the front with the C63S.

But some of the options that stand out and really make the car are as mentioned the AMG Performance Seats, AMG Performance Exhaust (standard on 2019+), 19/20 staggered wheels, aero dynamic package (2019+ coupes only), parking package just for the 360 camera alone. The other thing I use frequently and love is the Driving Assistance package for when I find myself in traffic occasionally and on long road trips. Visually I love the carbon exterior packages in combination with the aero package, and I use the built-in navigation frequently. Works very well for me.

I had a 2016 718 GTS.
Carbon fiber packages inside and out! Performance seats were a little too hard so I went with the standard seats with ventilation. Comfortable seats IMO. HUD is not a must for me. 360 degree camera is a must especially when pulling up to a parking curb. As you approach the curb, stop, put the car in reverse to turn on the front bumper view, put the car in forward then pull up slowly to the curb. I didn't get the Drivers assistance package but wish I did. Good luck!

Forgot to mention the digital instrument cluster which was an absolute must for me. Love the Supersport design. And the AMG Drive Unit which is standard in the S. I just spent two weeks in a W206 C300 loaner and boy did I miss the ergonomics of my C63. Playing Whac-A-Mole with the touchscreen was so super distracting. Got back into my car on Friday and everything instantly felt built for a purpose again. Buttons and physical controls are within reach and most of the functions can be operated blindly. Switching drive modes from the steering wheel is just so much better than fiddling with the capacitive buttons and the touchscreen. Just sad where car interiors are going, but it looks like the industry is finally admitting that capacitive buttons and touchscreens are idiotic in a car, but it takes time for these large organizations to change course. There's hope, though.

As for the constant whining of member @Barbalatte I just wanted to add this. The reason why I was in a loaner for two weeks was because I had a rattle coming from the headliner. I recently discovered that it was loose in the back, Unfortunately I'm out of warranty now. Had a chat with the service manager about it. I actually did bring up a rattle concern early on in my ownership coming from the rear, but they couldn't find it. Turns out it was the loose headliner. I was a bit annoyed at me not climbing back there earlier and find it, but what I wanted to say is they met me half way and offered a 50% goodwill. You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar if you handle things professionally and build a relationship with the dealership.

It's a 2019 2.5, I had an allocation for a 4.0 but after my current ownership experience it'll be a long time (if ever) that I'll go back to Porsche

I've owned a VW, a Hyundai, a few BMW's and now my Cayman and no car, including my e46 BMW has been as unreliable as my Cayman. My dealer experience with Porsche has been comically bad from purchase to service across multiple dealers.

Thank you all for the input, I definitely want to get exhaust and comfort seats. I have the Alcantara like race-tex seats in my car now and while I like them I'd rather have ventilated seats. Hopefully something comes up that's low miles and newer. I toyed with the idea of getting a new C43 but as V8's are going away I'd love to own a V8 again before they become less and less common.

Yep, just goes to show that dealership experiences vary widely. Depends on where you live and many other factors.

Just to clarify. For 2019+ models the AMG Performance Seats come with ventilation. Mine are heated and ventilated. I definitely recommend ventilation. I had Alcantara seats in my previous Audi RS5 and while they were better than non-ventilated leather seats, I still ended up sweating in them. The ventilated Nappa leather performance seats on the other hand work great to keep me comfortable. Below you can see the perforation in the leather for the ventilation. As opposed to the standard seats, the performance seats have perforation in the upper side bolsters, too, so the ventilation works from the side as well. With the normal seats people complain that the ventilation isn't very effective, but it works great for me with the performance seats.

As someone who's had ventilated seats in both the comfort and performance versions, the ventilation of the performance seats is far superior than the comfort seats. Last weekend on a 95+ degree afternoon, they worked almost too well to the point I had shut them totally off after a few miles of driving. The comfort seats had a decent cooling effect but not anywhere as effective as the performance seats.

It's nice the performance seats offer ventilation. One other car I was looking at was the new M4 and their performance seats do not come with ventilation. I did find a nice c63 but sadly it looks like it's on lowered suspension:

That seems like a good spec at a relatively low mileage, and it's a 4 door. Wonder why the price is so low. One tire got replaced at near 5k miles and it has aesthetic mods done to it, I imagine the car got abused. Maybe ask for CPO and PPI?

That car looks familiar. Might have belonged to somebody on here. But yeah, I'd stay away from this one. That suspension is super compromised slammed like that and take a look at the front rotor. Somebody was not kind to this one.

What did your dealer end up doing to fix the rattle in the back? My headliner is loose just like you mentioned and rattles over bumps. I went back there to investigate and found the center rear headliner where it meets the rear glass is loose and rattles. Drives me crazy. My 21 rattles from front to back lol.

They found play in the rear guides of the headliner and applied felt to compensate for it. The rattle is gone now. The headliner is still somewhat loose. Can be pushed up, but apparently that's how it is. They verified on another coupe. What matters is that the rattle is gone. Unfortunately, they didn't reconnect something or broke the microphone in the headliner area, so now voice control is not working anymore. It's not picking up my voice at all. Strangely, though I can make phone calls and use Siri, so there must be different microphones for handsfree vs voice control. I'm booked in two weeks to get it fixed.
