C63s Windshield replacement?????

Hi guys I have a question about windshields.
So my car has Distronic, lane keeping, steering assist and HUD display.
so to replace the windshield is $1300 USD. But I don't use any of those option as I turn them off most of the time.
lf I get a windshield that doesn't accommodate HUD or Lane Assist what other problems would I have. That windshield is worth $450

You will potentially have issues with active braking and collision avoidance. Those systems can't be turned off permanently. Camera needs to be calibrated after replacing the windshield. The HUD is a separate deal. That requires a special windshield, but looks like it doesn't changed the cost. My windshield I replaced a couple of years ago was also about $1300 and I don't have the HUD. Why the penny pinching and compromising the car? Insurance covers new windshields. It only cost me my $100 deductible.

I had to have the windshield replaced in our 2017 C43 Sedan (first trip, shortly after it was broken in!) -- it has HUD (love the HUD). The installer indicated that using a non-OEM windshield will cause the issues indicated by superswiss. He also said that it was important to do the install without disconnecting the "mirror pod" (my term) to avoid having to have the camera recalibrated. He did his work (in my garage, so got to geek out seeing the process, asking questions, etc.) and all was fine.

Agree with @superswiss , why skimp on something so vital like a windshield on a $100k car when you could just go through insurance?

I also had a windshield replaced on a previous M6 I owned a couple years back due to a big rock chip. It was $1600 for an OEM HUD replacement, my insurance at the time (Geico) replaced it no questions asked. I wasn’t even out any money because Safelite brought over the wrong windshield on their first try, broke the replacement windshield on their second try, and finally got it right on their 3rd attempt. As a result, my $100 deductible was waived.

So I just got a crack from a rock in my windshield. Stupid thing........stupid trip to Starbucks for a 6.00 drink is gonna cost me a lot more lol.

I got a quote from Safelite for 1340.00 but I've heard there are a lot of problems with non OEM windshields. I am debating if I go through insurance or paying out of pocket. I don't think it will raise my rates because it wasn't my fault, but you never know. I saw above it looks like the OEM runs 1600ish. What was the cost installed? Thanks guys!

What Safelite quoted you is what I paid for OEM glass installed at my dealership by factory trained glass technician. Now that was a couple of years ago, so prices may have gone up slightly. I only paid $100.

I'm also wondering what kind of downtime I'm looking at. I don't know if these windshields are readily in stock or need to be special ordered. Safelite said I could get it done by Thursday.

If I remember correctly it took two days for me. They ordered the windshield the day I dropped off the car and it came in the next day. That was even during the pandemic. I have heard, though, that there are some wait times for certain windshields. You can call the parts department of your dealership and asked what the current lead times are.

Perfect, thats exactly what I wanted to hear. If you got yours done during the pandemic I doubt it'll be any longer than that. Its not a primary vehicle so it can sit for a bit, I just would miss it haha. Maybe they'll give me a sweet rental!

Yes they gave me a loaner of course, so I didn't really care. Especially during the pandemic when I didn't really go anywhere. The loaners are never exciting, but at least I had a set of wheels if I needed them. We have a second car, but if the wife needs it then it's nice to have the loaner.

So all said and done it was 1934.xx from MB. Bad part was that it wasn't in stock and I'm still waiting for it to be shipped lol. I hate driving around with a cracked windshield especially because the crack seems to be growing.........but with a broken foot I can't drive the z06 and man the truck just isn't exciting. Serious 1st world problems..........
