You were able to change the engine mount with the engine in the car. How did you do it what did you need to remove?

Personally never experienced any of these issues. Only front bumper trim is fading, some interior squeaks, and recently the Assisted Brake Function is Limited warning came on which I read is just a software update. Hopefully I won't run into these issues, car has been a blast to own so far.

My thermostat went out at like 1k miles.

Car Issues History.

Problem 1 at 1,280 miles on the Odometer
Thermostat died in the first 3-4 months of the lease. Was repaired under warranty and the car was in the shop for 5 weeks.
9/21/21-10/14/21
24 days in the shop

Problem 2 at 4,620 miles on the Odometer
Exhaust flaps malfunctioned cutting engine power. Engine in limp mode.
Both exhaust flaps assemblies failed and were replaced under warranty. Took 4 weeks.
7/30/22-8/24/22
26 days in the shop

Problem 3 at 7,853 miles on the Odometer
The fuel pump control module died,
Check engine light came on and replaced under warranty.
3/22/23-3/30/23 about 9 days in the shop

Problem 4 at 9,715 miles on the Odometer
Car would not go into reverse. Shift lever error when doing 3 point turns.
Collision detection system goes off without warning.
Emergency auto brakes engage when backing up but no one is there.
8/24/23-8/31/23
8 days in the shop

Total days in shop so far since taken delivery has been 67 days

5.
Emergency automatic braking not working in hazard situations and setting alarms off when no cars are detected.
Basically problem 4 all over again.
Also, problem number 2 keeps showing up over and over intermittently. It keeps cutting power randomly. Cannot recreate.

Besides that. Amazing car haha.

2018 Amg E63s Edition 1
Been There, Done That!

I have a 2018 E63S, Edition 1. It's a bad boy and I've never tuned it or added aftermarket parts. At 47K miles the oil separators clogged and caused crank case pressure to the point the rear main seal blew out and oil was leaking bad. That was about a $7K job at a local indy shop. At that time we did the thermostat, new spark plugs, ignition coils, new CC brake pads, new tires, and new fluids. The CC brake job was $3K and that's just pads! In the same year I had the air ride rear suspension leak, so I had to replace both rear air shocks/struts and that was $3K.

To be honest, this car scares me that it's going to have catastrophic engine failure at some point. We can't be expected to replace the oil separators and RMS every 2 years at roughly $10K. Unacceptable. My shop is working with a manufacturer to build a Catch Can for the M177 to solve the oil separator issue for good.

What multiple mechanics have told me is that the pressure in this engine is just too high. It's the root cause of the more scary repairs. If you are thinking about one of these cars you should budget $10K/year for repairs and maintenance if you daily drive it like me. I just fear will one day be a $25K repair! Where does it end?

Yeah, the E63 seems to be problematic. The engine is not the same. The E63 has the M177 LS2 and as somebody recently posted after doing some research, AMG had to redesign the oil separator for the LS2 engine due to packaging constraints. It seems there's finally been some actual potential cause for the oil separator issues that the E63 and the other models with the LS2 engine are suffering from. The M177 in the C63 doesn't have this issue. The LS2 also has twin scroll turbos and higher boost pressure, so I can see what your mechanic is getting at. The LS2 has several differences over the LS1, including cylinder deactivation. See the link below.

So just had my 2017 C63s service at an Indy shop and they noted there were some oil at the bottom of my transmission and oil pan and could be a potential rear main seal leak. They cleaned off the area and told me to come back at a later time to see if there is really a leak. The year prior to service I did occasionally check my oil level and noticed no loss of oil at all. So either there is no leak or it's very small

It's important to differentiate between LS1 and LS2.

What you often read in forums (germany) is that the radiator on the passenger side leaks. It's supposedly due to a material defect (plastic).

I've had this problem myself.

According to engine specialists (germany engine rebuilders) the M177 LS1 engine should be durable.

No problems with bearing shells, pistons, cylinders, camshafts, etc.

Good good engeniering from AMG.

Use the aluminium mainfolds from weistec if you
have so much boost pressure & GAD Motors recirculation valves too.

Thanks for posting the YT Video from the 603 MTech Autowerks Chanel. They made realy meaningful Videos.

Guess I have been super lucky with this one, currently 111k miles on the clock, 2017, owned it since 2021 (38k miles).Almost everything has been just routine---I've done all the fluids multiple times on the car, brake pads multiple times, as well as coil packs/plugs at 50 and 100k. New battery last summer, as it was testing low but still cranking up normally. That's about it
Stage 2 tune, and TCU tune and the car has been a champ.
No motor mounts but after seeing all these I guess I am due. Never had issue with Thermostat.

List of unexpected:
Purge valves

That's it.........guess that's why I have continued to keep this one when usually I would have long since traded for another AMG car at this point. 5 yrs and still drives great

The only issue I've had iin that video are both active engine mounts cracked and I've had the car for over 7 years but I'm preparing I guess. Mine is a dinosaur old prefacelift coupe.
However, I've had plenty of other issues.

But from that video, the only thing I've seen happen in real life so far is leaks in other topics here, plastic intake manifolds cracking at 2 bar boost and engine mounts (mine).

That saying, here is a list of issues I've had outside warranty which I had to pay for over 7 years

◾ 1 injector stuck
◾ Purge valves
◾ Coil packs replaced 2 times
◾ Rear diff replaced
◾ Punctured factory front aux coolers
◾ Leaking coolant hoses
◾ Front fender makes a squeak
◾ Creaks in the front driver's seat
◾ All 3 exhaust flaps jammed twice
◾ Fading night package trim on front bumper
◾ Front ball joints
◾ Fading front black roof trim (goodwill warranty)
◾ Cracked leather seats
◾ Both active engine mounts
◾ High pitched whine at 70kmh and 110kmh since new even after diff changed
◾ Factory RXC wheels buckled twice

But this is over a span of 7 years and some things are maintenance but I put my whole list up anyway.

After I fixed all my issues I tuned the car to Stage 1 and now I'm running hybrid turbos around 700hp at the crank on low boost. I won't be doing anymore modifications and just concentrate on maintenance and restore.

Below is an example of cracked facelift (smaller) manifolds in that video from high boost tune etc. But I'm positive prefacelift (larger) manifolds would crack at that boost pressure too

what was the high pitch whine issue at 70? How did u fix?
