First the leasers, then the tuners,
and now the era of the enthusiasts?
A bit of an exaggeration, but is that a fair assessment? What do you think of your C63 - why did you choose this car?

2021 C63S AMG
I was looking for a new vehicle to replace my heavily modified Nissan 370z. I had a few cars on the short list of possible replacements, and this was one of them.

Found two C63S's that I tried to see the same day and both were sold by the time I arrived. Wife tracked one down for me over in NJ, so went over and test drove it and immediately knew it was an immensely different animal. Angry, capable, and willing to be a bit violent right out of the box. I knew immediately it was what I was after. Picked up a 2021 C63S with 26k miles, CPO car. I'm coming up on my year anniversary.

Only dislikes I have are that from the community side, not everything has been as surgically dissected as in the Z car world. There, every modification was extensively tested, reported on, and dyno'd. Here I can't find the same depth of data and I wish the forums were a bit more active! Glad to see your post, for example.

Hi Josh,

I'm glad you managed to snag a good C63s facelift.
Yeah, the good ones go fast – that's the way it is everywhere.This C63 205 forum has really become a bit quiet;
I would have expected more activity even in the world's largest MB forum, but there are good people here too.
One detailed post, for example, is the one about the upgrade radiators.

Perhaps the average Mercedes-Benz owners tend to be quieter types.

The people who mod/tune these cars are a minority. It's not as common as with BMW and other brands. TBH, most people who buy AMGs just use them to commute to work. A few of us either track them or at least take them onto fun back and canyon roads, and maybe make a few modifications. I stop at tires and brakes. Basically, I'm fine upgrading the consumables, but most tunes increase only the mid range on these and the car already struggles for traction with the stock tune, so more low end torque just means more wheel spin and then it dies hard up top. Have to upgrade to bigger turbos, but then you have more turbo lag down low and you still struggle for traction.

Personally, I bought my coupe for what it is, a grand tourer. I don't commute nor do I daily drive. I occasionally run an errand with it if my wife needs her car, but otherwise it's for road trips or a fun weekend in the canyons around here. This is why doing European Delivery was essentially non-negotiable for me. Made a 2 months trip through Europe driving almost 7000 miles and blasting down the German Autobahn as much as possible. I drove almost 12 hours in one go from Switzerland to Copenhagen, Denmark, blasting through Germany, then getting on a ferry to Denmark and continue on. It was an epic trip and exactly what a car like this is meant for. Unfortunately, with the pandemic, I haven't done anything similar in the last few years and European Delivery is no more. I've done several similar 1+ months European trips since 2022, but those were with rental cars, but I reserved one day for an AMG Experience day to go blast around the Nürburgring, or a winter event in Austria.

This car is about roads like these. This is the Stelvio Pass at the Swiss Italian border.

I know the one you mean about the radiators. Definitely a good read!

Any mods on your car, or staying stock?

Swiss, that totally makes sense to me. It's already an insanely capable car even without mods - and you're right, adding more power is an easy way to increase traction issues which already exist out of the box. That said, I was still hoping for a more active community.

Love the Stelvio Pass pic. I haven't hit that yet. I was just in Switzerland again in October - wife and I took my mom and dad for my mom's 70th. She'd always dreamed of visiting and was not disappointed, but we spent most of our time in the Interlaken area.

I'm signed up for the AMG Experience at Sonoma in August - looking forward to learning how to push the platform a bit and advance my skills.

C63s stock is in my opinion the best option.
Always service in a good car shop and all 10.000km oil change.

No mods - only carbon filler cap LOL … and if discs down ( OEM Brembo) i swap to the performance Brembo C63s Discs for this car ( front/rear) … the OEM are not bad but these looks and be more performance - i dont need it but if i spend a little more money i get a higher level.

Yes - more problems if tuned.
I have a friend with tuned C63s to ~ 650 HP he says to me dont do it because extrem wheel spin.
Its not possible to overtake a truck fast etc … ASR is working hard and on the end brake pads and rotors (rear) are allways fast down .

No not common with BMW M3 Fxy … were you have to eradicate OEM weak points (e.g. Brake)
(Only Audi RS compares to a AMG in my mind in OEM setup and quality).

Okay you picked up your C63s in GER by MB Factory an than shipped to USA ?
Its great but isnt it expensive ?

Nope, same price and even get a discount plus airfare voucher and one night hotel. It's a program we had here in the USA. The car has to be shipped anyway, so there is no extra cost. MB took care of everything. The car can be driven as an US spec export model for up to 12 months before it has to be shipped. After that, Germany wants the VAT. The only thing I had to pay for was insurance for like 6 additional weeks as they only included maximum of 2 weeks. That was like an extra $1000 from what I remember. It covered any damage that occurs while the car is in Europe. I actually curbed a wheel while I was there and they drilled holes in the front bumper to mount the mandatory license plate. This was all restored to factory condition when the car arrived in the USA. It was a great program while it lasted. Did it two times. Once with Audi in 2013 and the second time with MB in 2019. Then unfortunately came the pandemic and they decided to discontinue it, since nobody was allowed to travel and they essentially laid off the department or moved them to other departments. Since I bought an AMG I also got a private tour at the AMG factory. Almost met the person who hand built the engine, but unfortunately he worked a different shift. These pictures are from the delivery. With an AMG you get an extra special delivery in the so-called Center of Excellence with 3 course chef prepared lunch. We were eating lunch next to an AMG GT Pro.

Hey cool story.
What German car manufacturers do for US citizens is interesting.(Have done)

Had same with Audi many years ago.
Was like the same as you told from MB/AMG.
