My smokes today...

Met up with 2 buddies of mine for some cigars and coffee and beer @ Tampa Humidor.

Smoked the El Scorpion Natural Opus X I didn't get a chance to smoke yesterday...My Goodness this was a great smoke. It came from the 2011 Opus X Chrarity box and its at about 2.5yrs aged since I got the box...so smooth...the strength snuck up on me though. I highly recommend you age your Opus X cigars...you won't be disappointed.

THEN I went to meet a photographer I met through C2Design and he did a photoshoot on the 993tt...smoked a Tabak Cafe Con Leche while I watched him work...as you can tell my photography skills suck.

Was very blessed to have such great weather. No clouds and no wind at all! I love those cigar clips! Our local $1 store sells them so I picked up a dozen of them. I am sure I will be loosing some as well. Smokes look great. I should start aging my Opus. Every time I buy them I smoke them in a day or two. The 911 Turbo look great as well Jon! Is that car 100% finished on the built?

LOL you guys are going to mess around and get me into another expensive hobby with all the golf stories... Playing in a few weeks on borrowed clubs, 2011 was literally the last time I played a full 18.

993 is looking killer, Jon.

Smoked two sweethearts yesterday and today: new UF-13 from Drew Estate, and the Arturo Fuente Chateau Fuente Queen. The UF-13 was a bad boy... creamy, SU-PERBBBB construction. So much smoke, it was hilarious. Smoked it to the knuckles, and wanted more. It's probably a good thing I didn't have more, because between that and the Glenlivet, I was buzzed.

The AF Chateau surprised me... paid $6 for this stick about two months ago, and boy did it impress. Smooth, mild, and sweet like most Fuentes, this one was a treat. Firm ash and a maintenance-free burn, at least until I hit the lablel. When I removed the label, some of the outer leaf wrapper was stuck to it (too much glue?) and it tore . Flavor immediately shifted, but still finished strong. Will definitely revisit this one, AND the UF-13.

Check out those ashes

Thumbs up Super Deal!!!

Kudos to my wife for finding this... she saw an ad in a magazine that had a pretty killer offer for 8 cigars AND a travel humidor (Herfador) for $15. The travel humidor is $18 by itself, so you basically get 8 cigars for free. I had one of these before (lost it) so I'm glad to get another one -- it's waterproof, crush-proof and perfect for travel. However you figure it out, it's a good deal. The smokes listed aren't "premium" in my book but I certainly wouldn't kick them out of my humidor. You can only order this combo once.

Enjoy!

When it comes to common (i.e. attainable) and affordable, you really can't beat Padron's 5000 series. 90% of your cigar shops (and even the Indian tobacco marts) will have some on hand. You shouldn't pay more than $7 a stick and the 5000 is simply consistently delicious.

Arturo Fuente is a pretty common find... if you can find one wrapped in cedar (Chateau Fuente Queen) grab it.

Some other brands that come to mind when I think of "common" and widely available:
  • Perdomo (Habano & Lot 23 are easy finds)
  • Rocky Patel 1990, 1992
  • Romeo Y Julieta 1875
  • Montecristo Classic
  • CAO (Mx2, Italia, Brazilia are all decent)
  • Oliva (anything they make is good IMO)
I'm sure others will chime in. But by far, I recommend the Padron 5000. Even the 3000 is a good smoke, and slightly cheaper.

Hope this helps,

Try a Padron 3000 Maduro, a San Lotano Maduro, Romeo 1875, Don Diego. Those can be found pretty much at any cigar store and they are my frequent smoke. Also Fuentes tends to be a good smoke too!

i love maduro's, so i will definitely be on the lookout for the 3000 as well as the 5000. thank you for the recommendations!

if any of you guys are on instagram, i just posted pictures of a liga privada no9 that i had the privilege of smoking last night, along with the usual gran habano vintage 2002. the liga privada...definitely lives up to the hype surrounding it. i am currently on the hunt for a liga uf-13 now. know of any place that would possibly sell them?

OH forgot to mention, my gf just bought me a nice starter humi (holds about 25-50 sticks) a 5 pack of sancho panza and a 5 pack of arturo fuentes sungrown. smoked the sungrown last night with my buddy, and they were ok. gonna see how they smoke with some proper age on them.

All of my cigar buddies use Instagram... to be honest, the only reason I haven't created one is because I've gone so long without one. I'd feel like the grandma that finally got a Facebook account

That being said, kudos to your g/f for getting you the kit, that rocks!! The Sanchos you got, are they the brown label/white text? That's my favorite SP -- smoooooth and a Cohiba-like burn. Freaking love 'em.

Few days ago I had my old standby, the Flor De Las Antillas Double Toro... freaking yummy -- that's all that can be said about that smoke. Nutmeg, toast, cedar, and some earthiness... consider me smitten. And I stumbled upon the Toro (the size that actually earned the 96 rating) at my local shop for....

wait for it....
$6!!!!

I bought five of them.

Had another Cafe Con Leche... again, simply delicious. A great "reset" from the stronger cigars...

This afternoon, the weather turned to complete poo. 45° in May in Tennessee is unheard of... So, I spent a few hours at my favorite smoke shop in the hills of Brentwood. Smoked my first Opus X Fuente Fuente... my gosh is that a freaking legendary stick

Perfect draw, the whitest ash I've ever seen, a refined & complex flavor, and as Jon noted... sneaky strength. I was seriously buzzed off my ****. Now I know why he likes them so much!!!

Hope you guys have a blessed one,

--John

This is a sampler that looks pretty interesting to me... I've had the Don Pepin Cuban Classic and the Flor De Las Antillas, both great smokes.

you're awesome Kreuzfeuer. i ended up gettin a box of Genesis after reading some reviews of how similar it is to liga no9. BUT, read below for what i did pick up.

so, i was looking for a specific dipa around my area and i found this place called icon beverages & cigar. probably the cleanest liquor store ive ever been to. anyway, i picked up some dipa's that are somewhat rare or at least not the easiest of beers to find. and i walk into their humi just to take a look. immediately, i see the FDLA and Oliva Serie V. picked up 1 of each, and told myself i'll be back for their AVO, Ashton, CAO, AB, AF, etc. tons and tons of craft beers and amazing smokes. anyone who is local to Cypress, CA. check them out!

Nice grab!! I try to order my cigars online a few times a year from Cigars International (much more cost-effective)... but about once a week, I make a two-stop errand run through town -- Total Discount Beverages & Tobacco (similar to how you described Icon... very clean and orderly) and then I stop in at this place called The Humidor. The latter carries the top-tier premium sticks... But Total has really surprised me lately. The owner is a cigar enthusiast (certainly helps) and he will take suggestions for boxes to buy. You never know from one week to the next what he's liable to have in there. Stopped in about a year ago and he had Cohiba XV's for $10 a stick

Weather up here has been fantastic recently until today. Mid 80's and high 70's with humidity at night. Some great golf over last weekend and weekdays are perfect still when I get home. I have been having a variety of smokes recently.

Weekend cigars...played in a memorial golf scramble for a friend I lost last year. After 2 weeks of no golf due to do a back strain, I hit actually pretty well with the help of some anti-inflammatory med and muscle relaxants...and cigars.

We got hammered Friday night on cigars, a bottle of Glennfiddich, and Cigar City Maduro beer...its been awhile since I had the feeling the room was spinning.

Opus X Love Affair @ the golf range...nice short smoke with a bucket of golf *****.

Friday night line up...Padron 1964 No. 4, Opus X Perfecxion No. 2, Cohiba Genios Maduro...great cigars with a great brown ale (Cigar City Maduro) and Glennfiddich. That Opus X has been aged for 7 yrs and is about the most PERFECT cigar I have ever smoked...my goodness was it smooth with absolutely no bite...ash was perfectly layered...smoke was voluminous.

Saturday Scramble cigars...Hoya de Monterrey 2011 Special Edicion and Padron 1964 No. 4. Hoya was ok...very grassy taste but after the 1st quarter was smoother...the Padron 60 ring gauge can be off putting but a good cigar if you like em big!

Tonight after dinner...Punch Double Corona...very good island cigar.
