which amg front bumper to get?

i am getting a 2001 cl600 this weekend and this car does not have the sport package. i like the amg ground effect alot. are there any difference between the different model year amg bumpers? also can a post-2003 bumper fit a 2001? i am also considering the WALD kit but i dont like the side skirts. also what else is different besides the tail lights from a 2001 to a 2003? i also want to get some 19" or 20" wheels with wide lips, have you guys notice any ride quality problems? what off set should i look for? what do you think of the cheap wheels on ebay? less the $1k for 20". thanks in advance.

I'm the prefect man for your answers... been there and done that. The 2000-2002 AMG (the front bumper and grill is thinner(height wise) compare to the 2003-2006 AMG which is about 2"-3" fuller/lower to the ground...making the bumper looks tougher/back bumper have dual single exhaust difuser vs 2003-2006 which have dual exhuast difuser...you will need exhaust alteration since the CL600 is a single tip. WALD is very nice...I had it on my CL before I got hit so I went with the AMG for a change. I have 20" on my car (did a fender roll to made it work)...like you I always wanted at least a 4" lips...but no can do. Can't put a wide lip on a CL (wheel weld is not as big). I just love a wider lip...it just makes the car looks so tough and has a wider stand. BTW my front is of a 2002 (which I was ****...they were supposed to get me the 2003-2006..it was too late). You will not have any problems fitting post 2003 to a 2001 CL, mine is a 2000 CL...it will just cost a lot of money for AMG kit. Beside the tail lights, the front lights are different, they are clear on a post 2003 not cloudy looking. Refer to 2 of my threads and hopefully it will help cleared out some of your questions. Good luck..keep us posted with some pictures. 20" for less than 1k..good luck, you get what you pay for.

02ml320,

The exhaust tips were custom done. It was some high end single tips that I had them welded and put together utilizing the old exhaust. For the lowering part..I did not use any lowering modular. The shop that I had done it at used a shorter A-Arm for the front and adjusting the sensors. Using the ABC to lowered and raised the car anytime. I had them lowerered the car about 1.75" you can lowered it even more if you tell them ahead. The cost is 500 dollars. Most place does the same thing. So far so good. Hope that helps. I think there was a thread in here that talks about different ways of lowering...and this is the most cost effective and works well.

the car i am getting was lowered by previous owner already so i don't have to worry about it. i am considering getting either the wald kit from istoreparts.com for about $1600 shipped or getting used amg bumper for about the same price. what do you recommand? about the exhaust tips, i like yours alot and i don't want to add any noise either so i would probably do it your way. i also like the oval tips from sl or lars k's kleeman exhaust alot too.

I FORWARDED YOU A PRIVATE EMAIL REGARDING TO CUSTOMIZING THE TIPS. FOR THE BODY KIT ISSUE... FOR SURE I LIKE THE BACK BUMPER OF THE AMG (THAT IS 2003-2006)....LOOKS BETTER THAN THE WALD BACK END. FOR THE FRONT END... I WAS STILL DEBATING TO GO WITH THE WALD FRONT END... IT LOOKS VERY DIFFERENT AND NICE, NOT EVERYONE GOT IT. MAYBE BECAUSE I ALREADY HAD IT BEFORE. BUT IF YOU DO DECIDE TO GO WITH AMG...MAKE SURE IT IS OF A 2003 AND UP, IT JUST LOOKS A LOT TOUGHER. THE KLEEMAN KIT THAT LARS K HAVE IS AWESOME... I SAW IT 0N A SILVER CAR AND DIDN'T LIKE IT AS MUCH THAN LARS' SO I DECIDED NOT TO GO WITH THE KLEEMAN. KEEP US POSTED WITH SOME PICS

My car has the whole AMG package (2005 CL 600), I am interested in the Lorinser Kit so if you can make me an offer than we might can work out something to sell you all my parts after i receive my Lorinser parts. Tell me your car is the Brilliant Silver, if so than you need to put in consideration that you will NOT have to paint these parts they are in mint condition. Let me know. Thanks Make sure you found out if all these parts off my 2005 will fit on your 2001. I am not sure about that.

Hi there,

I may be interested in your bodykit if you still have it.

However, I do not know if 2003+ AMG front bumper is a direct bolt on for 2000 CL or not.

Can anyone confirm this? Also, can a 2003+ AMG front bumper fit on a 2000 CL500 with the older headlights?

Thanks.

Jon

Guys..it will fit. I had mine done. A good bodyshop can do so. Others might not since they go by the damn rules or does not understand it. I did asked a couple of places and they didn't know what they were talking about. To make it fit...they will need to change out the inner plastic support on each front and back bumper, because they are different between an 2000 and 2003.
