Looks like the fender flares are gonna be the norm.

Nothing I can do, just jump in the river and swim with the rest.

not feeling it

sorry to rain on your parade. the front is okay, but man o man whats up with the back, what happened to clean streamlined lines from the roof to the end. to me it looks bulky and too hight up the ground, like the buick. but I am sure some after market guys are going to change the looks of it however they want.

just my 2 cents

Not feeling it.....

It might be okay in black with some better wheels to fill out the car, but I'm disappointed. I think MB did a better job with the E63 update.....they basically left it alone!

No! No! No!!!

People:

Once again, This is a recycled thread AND recycled styling.

This "NEW" style is does not stand out as bieng anything uniquely MBZ.

Some of the other members have said; and they're not crazy, "it looks like other auto makers" designs meshed together. (BMW, Toyota, etc...)

I hope word gets back to corporate quicker than it did with the W140.

The "new" CL is now officially a "chick" car.

You know, I was thinking the same thing. Does no one else think of "Toyota Solara" when they look at the new CL?? Cuz that's what it is.

Yup.

TA 9FF:

Yeah:

Just super-impose a guy jumping in front of the vehicle with his arms in the air and let the chorus sing:

"I love what you do for me..."

As I stated in my other post, the new S-class looks way better. This CL doesn't look any better. Just a 2-door S-class.

Those photos have been touched up to remove the last remaining strips of tape so I'd wait for the official photos because the S-Class looked awful too until people saw it in person. There is no way Mercedes is going to mess up one of their best looking cars of the past 25 years, the CL.

I can also hear it already "Let ME make a deal for YOU on this brand new CL!"

The current CL looks expensive, elegant, and worth it's price. The "new" one just looks plastiky, cheap.......and yeah, Japanese. Why would they paint the grill to match the body? They should've kept a chrome grill at the LEAST.

After seeing pics of the W204 C Class, and now this.........what gives?

I notice it takes longer for some ppl to warm up to new designs than others, but i'm sure most will come around once they see it more. I like it, it does have a w221 resemblance.

Here on the CL forum, we prefer not to call the CL "the weak class".....just sales challenged!

Seriously though, that new design looks to be a shame. Many people have found the current CL to be one of the best-looking designs Mercedes makes.

Ok, OK most people seem NOT to like it. I would wait, however, until more pictures come out, giving us a 3D idea about the car.

I am also interested in seeing its interior, and how the car is going to be specd. For example, is ABC going to be standard? Is the dashobard going to be different from the S class? (probably not). Are the rear seats going to be separated by some nice touches of wood?

Al these factors do contribute to the CL's timeless flair. This car is about style: if you want brute power, get a Cayenne, if you want space, get a regular S, which is 10K (Swiss Francs, Euros, Dollars?) cheaper.

In Brief, the CL's charm partly resides in its idosyncrasies.

Remember, this is supposed to be MB's flagship, and the Maybach and the SLR are sold in such small quantities, not to make a difference anyway.

Just my 2 cents worth of nightime reflections....

Well said. I learned from my premature panning of the new S-Class that judging a car by viewing pre-release pictures is not the wisest thing to do. Between the body cladded panels that reminded me of a Solara and Mercedes's marvelous talent for tape placement, I have decided to wait for the real thing. I think, in person, the new CL is going to make a real statement and be the flagship that we all expect it to be. It never appealed to everyone anyway, so why should this one be any different ?

PLEASE!!! ("First real pics...")

davidegai:

RE: "First real Pics..."

Did you not see the thread "New CL at Geneva?"???

It's the one that already has the "first real pic" along with currently about 32 postings discussing this very subject.

Feel free to browse around and maybe use the "SEARCH" tool before you start up a "new" thread.

-Hey "new" thread... that's like the '08 W216's "new" styling!!!

Well said. I CAN tell you, however, after seeing the new CL in Spain last month that it is very-well appointed and is fresh at the same time....please do not ask me to elaborate extensively as I was on my 6th or 7th Cava by that time.

The car is gorgeous! The interior is gorgeous!
