Brake pads

How quickly do you guys go through brake pads on the CL600? I bought the car w/ 35k miles and the service advisor said the pads AND the rotors had to be replaced because they were under specs...and also the rear pads need replaced as well (though rotors are still ok in the rear). He said 20k miles is the average miles prior to replacing the pads? Seems awfully soon...

I had a 2002 CL for 40K miles and never had to replace my pads. They still had quite a bit of use left on them. Went through 3 sets of tires, but that car gave me very few problems. I just bought a white CL500 Saturday. Beautiful car. I hope I have as good of luck with this one as I had with my 2002.
Does anyone know how the video filter can be removed so that the video of a DVD can be seen??? Are their any aftermarket onboard diagnostic computer software programs/cables that can be purchased to make code changes on a CL? I bet if we change the codes to European coding, the video will appear. I also want to eliminate the chimes when the doors are opened.

I changed my pads with Porterfield R4-S pads at about 25k miles because I was tired of cleaning the wheels of brake dust, and the original pads still had plenty of wear left on them. If you need to change them, I highly recommend the Porterfield pads and to replace them yourself. I replied to a post not too long ago with the procedure (see link below). It'll only take you about an hour and will save you a grand or so in labor cost.

Good luck.

My 2000 has 53K Miles. I bought at 17K Miles. I think this is my 3rd set of Pads. 2nd set of Rotors. 3rd set of tires. Went Michelin and much better than the Conti`s. Mines a CL500. Normal city driving. Pads and tires every 20-25K is normal. Its a heavy car. For this car its a consumable. Part of owning one.

Thanks for the info!

Wish I had read that post about the no-dust pads sooner.

I agree. Some cars look best in white, and this includes the CL. I've had many cars in white, some I searched out and some just by coincedence. I would have bought a white CL if I found one. Here's a partial list of white cars I've owned: 1970 Plymouth AAR Cuda; 1993 Audi 90CS Quattro Sport; 1994 BMW 540i; 1997 BMW 840Ci; and 2004 Mercedes CLK320 Cabriolet. Here's a pic of the white 840:
