CL took a **** today

today i had a meeting and the cpo cl500 that i got not too long ago took a **** on the staten island expressway right before the verrazano bridge on my way to manhattan.

it felt like i hit something but i knew i didnt and when i looked in my rear view i saw smoke and then the car got real bouncy and the abc (active body control) sign came up on the cluster.

i pulled over at the next exit and had to call roadside assistance. they said thats a sign my hydraulic suspension blew out, OH GREAT. they told me they were going to have to send a special flatbed cause the car was literally slammed to the ground. only problem was i use ray catena and they only have 1 of these special flatbeds. i took a cab to my friends house and had to wait until 5pm for the tow truck, i wanted to kill myself.

sorry for the rant, anyone else have a similar problem? btw the car is a 2002 with sports package.

so your sure you did not hit one of those glorious new york potholes that are more like ditches...i know when my abc light was on the car was definately bouncy but not to the ground..they replaced my abc pump and all has been fine since...is that what happened to you, needing a new abc pump? if that is out of warrant it is like 2 grand..good luck with everything...i didint know you had a cl it says you have clk...

i have both just never updated it. i got the extended warranty so i should be cool but i gotta call them first tomorrow am and see exactly what the problem is. i assumed the smoke i saw was the tire rubbing on some part of the wheel well or who knows what at 60mph cause once i slowed down the smoke stopped. ill update the thread tomorrow after i speak to the SA

Hi, im so sorry to hear about this... I know its a bummer. My ABC on my old 2002 S500 Sport went out twice. Both times I was moving only 5mph so no real danger, however, i DID see smoke coming from the back and the front of the car - this was apparently leaking ABC fluid on the hot surfaces. I dont know if this is really the case, but thats what I was told. Also - you are VERY lucky you did not lose total control of the car. I hope you are ok and that you were not hurt.

I am in Brooklyn NY and know exactly where you were at the time of the suspension failure, and that must have been TOTALLY scary.

Same thing happened to me, this is perhaps the most dangerous part of these cars. With me I was going 60+ and the ABC lights came on, all of a sudden the front takes a demon drop and the rear went UP (strange) the force of the drop ripped off part of my front bumper. It was an ABC pump and some other random stuff, my bill was like 4K. Sad to see these things happen on 125K cars.. I heard its cheaper to own some exotics then the CL

wow, sorry to hear man, especially here in the new york roads, even if you had a truck suspension it'd still die out.

yea actually spoke to the SA this AM, they couldnt even look at the car till yesterday afternoon. they told me it was the hydraulic hose that popped off so they replaced it and they are also replacing the wiring harness (they said it was faulty as well). should have it back today or tomorrow. thanks everyone.

I am hearing a lot of people having problem with thier ABC.
