I live closer to the Schaumburg area than Chicago, roughly due North through Barrington in Cary. Just FYI stuff, I'm very pleased with the service I get at the Vernon Hills Motorwerks MB dealership (West border of Schaumburg). There is also another dealership in Barrington, the Arlington Heights dealership may be out of business.

Haven't done the Chicago downtown working commute in a while ... lived in Evanston ~10 years ago, but my knowledge of good downtown places to stay is stale.

Just an FYI ... Schaumburg is a healthy distance from downtown.

Oh ... I'm very interested in the setup of your CL600.

Vernon Hills is up north....they don't have a MB dealer there.
Go to www.apartments.com to look for apartments, although Schaumburg isn't a bad suburb.

ok heres the dilema

I am 30 years old. I was out in Schaumburg last month. I felt like i aged 7 years in the 7 days i was there. I have been looking in the downtown area (river north, navy pier) and have found a nice place on lake shore drive. My problem now is that i have no idea what the commute will be to work (Elk Grove Village) esp in the wintertime.

any input on this one?

Oops ... Hoffman Estates, not Vernon Hills ... for the life of me, I don't know how I get the two confused. Drive through Vernon Hills everyday, take the car for service in Hoffman Estates ... geez, should be easy for me to remember.

Okay ... even though I got confused on the difference between Hoffman Estates and Vernon Hills (heck, it's only a scant thirty miles and different counties), I did used to live in Arlington Heights on the border with Elk Grove Village.

The advantage you have with Elk Grove Village is that you are at least close to 90 and 290. On your next visit, my recommendation is to see if you could do your planned commute from downtown to Elk Grove Village during what your normal trip time would be and judge for yourself. Pretty much any opinion I give would be relative, what I think is bad may be okay for you based on what your current commute might be.

was your car was in service today? I took it in this morning and saw a horizon blue cl55.

i stayed in downtown during the july 4th weekend. i worked monday (5th) and there was no traffic and i made it in 30 min. on tuesday, it took me about 50 minutes. so it makes me wonder whether traffic was light because people were out of town? or is it because there was construction on the freeway (by the toll booths)?

Yep ... I brought it in at around 8:15 ... probably just missed seeing ya. It's having an overnight stay for the work that it's having done. PM me if you are interested in knowing who I work with, also in regards to your Renntech ECU plans.

Traffic seemed to be light over the 4th, it was kinda strange. There was a rush for people to get out of the city on Friday, but my family travelled on the 4th itself and O'Hare was barren.

Some might say that your planned commute is going "opposite" of the congestion, you will be going out of the city when everyone is coming in and then going into the city when everyone is going out. If you find a place in the downtown area that enables you to get on the expressway system quickly, the commute out to Elk Grove Village may not be too bad.

I didn't want to get your expectations out of sorts earlier, but since you've already tried the route I'll let you know what I was thinking -> one hour conservatively.

On the opposite end of the spectrum would be the place I lived in Evanston which was a few blocks off the lake. It would take me 20 minutes just to get to the expressway, making it hard to make up time.

Hey

Hey-
Randomly went through CL forum today and I totally recognized your car at the Hoffman dealership! The renntech badge on the back and those wheels were a little hard to miss. Just thought I'd let you know, that dealership is not the best from my experience. It's worth the trip to Motorwerks Barrington, I found their service department to be a lot more professional. That and I use Mercedes Naperville.

got my car back

all i can say is. Jason R at Hoffman MB is the best Service Advisor i have ever worked with. Coming from LA, I am used to the usual put off and excuses as to why the car isnt ready or why a part is not in stock after 2 weeks. Jason promised me a date and delivered my car on that date. I had an entire transmission replaced without question. Simply, based on the fact that he did not feel that the car felt right.

He coordinated the tranny from California (ironic) and had it installed in 1/2 day. I have not had the car since last tuesday, i must say that it drives like new.

I give Hoffman MB 5*'s on this service.
