My car is dead........

I just returned from a 1 week vacation last night. When I walked into my garage, I was confused because the blinking red alarm light wasn't blinking. So I try to open my door (keyless entry) and nothing is happening. My remote wasn't working either and I just replaced the battery. I eventually open the door with the little key attached to my remote and my car is like totally dead; Nothing is working including interior lights or starter on my shifter. I can't even stick the key in my ignition and turn it because it won't let me turn the stupid key.

Is this just a battery issue? is it possible that my car would act like this from just the battery? It seems weird that Im getting no sign of life.

Anyone know what this could be? All the MB dealers are closed today.

I'm willing to bet that it's your battery. You had mentioned that you just replaced it so perhaps one of the connections may still be loose? or an interior light may have accidentally been left on (1-week is plenty of time to fully drain your battery).

Check all your connections and give it a good charge and you should be fine.

Meegle,

I meant to say that I replaced the battery in the remote, not the actual car battery.

I just tried to jump the car and it didn't want to turn over. When I connected the jumper cables, the car at least woke up in the sense that the lights came on and I was able to use my key. Unfortunately the car just made clicking noises when I tried to start it. Maybe it's the alternator or something else.

this is probably a sign that your battery had 0 life charge left in it so a jump will do you no good. I would call 1-800-MERCEDES for roadside to come and bring you a MB battery. They supposedly work 24/7 so they should be working today.

I had this same problem 3 weeks ago. It wasn't a battery problem. If you turn the key enough times I guarantee the car will start. I suggest you get the car to the dealer ASAP. My car had an ignition problem. I hate to say this but my CL has been the most unreliable car I have ever own. It's always something wrong with my car but the smile I receive from other people when I roll up is priceless.

Rogers,

In this case, I think you're wrong. I think it's either the battery or Alternator. As soon as I hooked up the jumper cables, my car was alive. Unfortunately it didn't start, but I really feel that It's my battery, which is totally dead without the cables hooked up to it.

Pull the battery out and take it to Advance Auto or Auto Zone and they'll check it for you. I just replaced mine...$70 + tax, etc. at Advance.

My car is now alive and well......

Thanks for all help and advice.

I called roadside and they came to my house. He changed the battery after testing it (it was dead) and it didn't cost me at all since the car is under warranty. I really missed my car while I was away.

Glad you car is fine and you found the problem. I had a similar problem but it happens the moment I turn off the car. I would drive, and once I park and turn the car off, EVERYTHING shuts off including lights, alarm everything...I would get out of the car then get back in and the lights would come back. I think my battery is starting to go..

CL Battery Life

CL battery normally lasts about 2 years under normal use.
I am on my second replacement on my 2000 CL500.
Seems that when you let them sit for extended periods
they dont last as long.

Always use MBZ Roadside Assistance for battery replacement.
You wont get a better deal at any strip mall auto parts place.
And Roadside will do the labor and reset all your warning lights !

The Battery on these cars is just one more consumable.
Every 25K. Tires, Brakes, Battery. Just the nature of the beast.

Just charge it up for a couple hours, then try to jump start it and it should work fine. Sometimes, on mercedes, the battery needs to have some charge PLUS a jump start.

Nevermind, you fixed it.

I had the same experience - twice. Once on a brand new battery.

Take your phone out of the cradle when you travel ... worked for me.

I had the exact same situation happen with my 05cl500, got back from a one week vaca and the entire car was dead, plus the right side of the car had deflated and was resting on the tires, called MB roadside and they ended up having to tow it back to the ship, they fixed it there and said they replaced the battery, still to this day though, if i do not drive it at least once a week, the right side deflates, once i back up a few feet, it pops back up.pretty weird, i love the car, it looks great, but i have to say, i have had more trouble with it than the law allows, i will not be getting another one.

oh yea, the way the guy at the dealership explained it to me was due to all the electronics and so forth , literally half the car stays on, or alive, as he called it. even after you turn it off, he said they ( the builders of the car, made it way to tech, with way too many gadgets and toys.Really, i could not figure out what he was trying to say, but the car works now, so i am happy.

My '02 CL500 starts to drop after about 2 weeks of sitting and then, like yours, comes right up when put into gear. Some guys on the forum here say theres doesn't do this but I have my doubts. MB told me they get a lot of calls from the airport where people have let their's sit while they're away on a trip and don't know whether to drive the car or not after they return and see it deflated.

Hi Andrew,

My car went dead yesterday, after we left it for about 2 hours. Came back and found the car literally dead. Left if overnight, the next morning I open the bonnet and it worked again. But, on the display, it showed "ESP malfunctioned". Then I switched off the car and started again, then "no malfunction found".

Anybody in this world know what is happening to my car, C200 Kompressor 2001. Thanks

Or just call Mercedes. All the dealers were closed when I had my problem.
