Talking 2003 Mercedes Benz CL600 vs. 2003? Bently GT Continental

The CL6 has moved up now with its 500hp engine. Now it will be one of the direct competitors of Bently's GT Continental due out next year. The Bently also has 500hp, and a six speed paddle shifted transmission. Rumors are the Bently will start around $150,000, whch is more than the CL. This will be interesting to see once the car mags get a hold of both cars!!!!! Any input appreciated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I also forgot about the CL55 ///AMG competing with the Bently GT. For the S600 and S55 ///AMG lovers, they will also be competitors to the Bently Arnage T!, this will be a good one for the Mercs!!!!!!

Both are obviously going to be incredible cars. The Bentley is 40K more however. In terms of prestige, the Bentley takes the cake, hands down. In terms of everyday practicality, i think the CL55 makes more sense.

The Bentley will have about 800nm of Torque!!! Thats unreal. No interior pictures have been released, but im sure its going to be incredible. As for me, I'll stick with the CL55 thats on the way.......

2003 CL55
The Bentley looks and from the relatively little information released, including this week's Autoweek article from the Paris auto show, like it will be a monster in all positive respects. Definitely a more exclusive car than the CL's in any trim. The Bentley will definitely get the favored valet spots. I am staying with my 03 CL 55, however, as I believe that it will be more practical, at least in a relative sense. Performance of the CL 55 may lag the Bentley in straight line acceleration, but will likely be a better handling car.

You can catch more pics of this car at http://www.cardesignnews.com/autosho...entley-gt.html The interior looks great in my opinion.

The front reminds me alot of this http://www.sdjag.com/Images/R-COUPE.jpg

Damn, that car looks beautiful. Makes the Mercedes almost look bland. Interior is very luxurious too.

That's because the CL's body style is dated compared to GT's. The only thing that I think could use some improvement on this car are its brake lights. They are pure red and could probably look a bit better with some white on them.

What car will hold its value better?? Bentleys depreciate also (e.g., you can get a 2000 Arnage for $125K which sold new for $250K).

Too Young To Drive
Depends on what I'm comparing about:

Straight Line Performance: Mercedes
Autobahn Cruiser: Mercedes
Exquisity: Bentley
Resale value in 100 years: Bentley

if bentley produces 8000 GT's a year like they said they would, then CL600 will be more exclusive.

2003 CL55
8000 a year? When did Bentley say that and where was it reported? If they produce 8000 a year the CL55 will literally be more exclusive, but the styling of the Bentley will stilll get the front and center valet spot if it looks as good as the pictures suggest. The CL may be a bit dated by comparison to the Bentley, but has set the design cues for the SL and other MB's. Its design has worn well. I still favor of the CL55.

2003 CL55
What does chipping the new CL55 gain over stock and what are the risks to the warranty and the life of the engine? How does the torque curve change with the Renntech chip? Regarding the CL55 ABC set-up, will US dealers be able to version spec the ABC to the European set-up? I am interested in having my 03 CL55 lower than my 02 CL. The Brabus suspension mods seem ridiculously expensive given my understanding that ABC mods are software based, not mechanical. Probably will stay with 18" wheels due to the deplorable roads here though.

My authorized Benz dealer is also a rep for Renntech,I have no idea how they resolve the warranty issues but my car is always taken care of no matter what.
Chip for CL55 raises hp to about 525 and torque to mid 500.
Contact Renntech for more info:www.renntechmercedes.com

996tt, E55, X3 and a few others not worthy of mentioning here...
One thing's for sure, we'll see a lot of both in music videos!!! Seriously though, the AWD capability of the GT plus the fact that you are not sharing the same interior (basically) with a $20,000 CL230 Kompressor also helps the Q factor as well. Despite having put money down for the first one on the block, I'm still not 100% sold on the GT's looks just yet. The new Audi S8 would likely be reasonable replacement at half the price....

As my daily driver,S8 was probably the best, most practical car I have ever had.A car you get in and drive with complete confidence from day one.I traded it because the upcoming new body style, high miles were affecting the trade-in value tremendously.(I also have a bad habit of changing cars to often)
When new S8 arrives and rumors of 500+hp will be proven ,I will most definitely get it.
