New owner STUPERFIED!!!!! =(

Now that ive figured out the ball joint situation... When I arm the alarm on the car, the doors will not lock and the mirrors will not fold in!!!!

Man Ive had this car for about 3 weeks almost and Im getting tired of all these little annoying problems... Anyone know why the alarm is acting up? Or am I just missing something?

Not a happy CL owner!!!!!

Make sure the batteries in the key are fresh. Drug Store has them cheap.
Getting the key open takes some skill. Search and you will find the trick described depending on your key type. Mine starts doing weird stuff when its low. Also the little red LED will flash to tell you its low.
As well it should flash when you push the key. Batteries last a couple years.
Yes the CL has its quirks. But once you figure them all out it wont be so frustrating. Also to do the close all the windows trick as well as the mirrors
you need to be pointing and close to the door sensor. It will arm and lock from 20-30 feet or more. But the window tricks you need to be right close to the door with mine. Good luck.

I would say its a control module \ electrical fault. Have you got a code reader - maybe there are stored faults?

I take you have a warrenty on your car?!?!? I hope so - personally I wouldnt buy ANY MB without a warrenty - since leaving school in 1991 ive had 9 mercs and only 3 of them have been fault free - luckily ive had MB warrenty with all of them (except the ML430 and I only had that 6 months )

Ive had:
C180 Sport 1995
CLK200 Sport 1997
CLK200 Avantgarde 2002
CLK240 Avantgarde 2002
CLK240 Avantgarde 2002
ML430 2000
C36 AMG 1995
C32 AMG 2002
CL500 2004
CLK55 AMG 2002

of these only the C180, ML430 and the CLK200 1997 were fault free. Man you HAVE to have a warrenty !!

Well it was worth the try. Sounds like what the post above mentioned. A Control Module. Hopefully you have a service department that is familiar with CL electrical systems. Do the mirrors, doorlocks and trunk release all work normally from inside the car ? If so. Thats one of the control modules.
I think they are under the rear seat. You may want to search the CL section.
If you know what module to replace it could be a DYI.

I too have extended warranty on my CL. Its a necessary cost with these cars. Good luck and let us know the results.

Can you open the trunk from inside the car? Or lock the doors from inside?

The reason I ask, is because my mom's SL is having the same problems. Its an 04 SL and the remote seems to be dead. can't lock/unlock the doors with either the remote or from the inside of the car. Trunk button on the remote or from the center console doesn't work. Keyless go doesn't work. Only way to lock the door is to pull the little key out of the remote...and the same goes for the trunk.

The car has been at the dealer for a week now and still not ready nor fixed. I am probably going to head down there tomorrow to see the status of the car...if you are having the same problems as this let me know and I will see wat info I can get for you....

Well got the news....

1.) battery needed to be replaced (it was on its way out anyways)
2.) MASSIVE corroded grounds (caused all the alarm, remote, etc issues)

well now ended up fixing the alarm, remote, and unlock/lock/trunk buttons.

And while the car was at the dealer they did some last needed updates on the car....and with the HIGH quality of MB nowadays, the vacuum pump for the suspension decides to go bad on the SL.

So all done and said, it came out to be 1430+tax.

hope that helps.

So your saying that cleaning the battery terminals and grounds should solve the mirror, trunk, and doorlock issues??? Thats great but sounds a lil strange. But Ill be cleaning the terminals in about 15 min and we'll see...

Thanks for the info!

Looked at the battery in the trunk and it looks fine... Went over to the battery store in my area and they told me that there was a smaller battery that controles the electronics and accesories of the car... Where is that battery located at? Anybody know???

from what I remember them telling me there are some other "ground wires" that where causing the issues (i dont think they meant the ground on the battery...sorry if I mislead ya on that).

But sadly enough, the SL is still at the dealers and wont be completed til Mon. Its been already a week and a half. Now something to do with seal on the vacuum pump for the suspension problem.....

Wow.... They still have the SL huh?! Im sure they will find 2 or 3 other issues that need IMEDIATE ATTENTION!!!! They do that everytime I take the NSX or the Porsche in for oil change service. Most the time I look at the service adviser and

Hope all your SL issues get resolved and the $$$ stays reasonable!

GOT IT FIXED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

to the tune of 1000 bucks!

Turns out the door locks, door and trunk closing assist, folding mirrors, and truck pop functions, are all done by a pneumatic pump in the trunk. Once that pump goes out.... so do all these funtions!

funny how that was never mentioned on this or any other forum i tried to find the answer on.... Well, know we know!

Something sounds fishy. I have had that pump replaced in my trunk as well on my CL500 when its stopped "Sucking" when it closed. You had to slam it
like a regular car trunk. It was like $ 250.00 and it was covered on my extended. As far as that trunk pump controlling the other functions I say BS Someone is yanking you.

At least you got it all fixed and it wasnt to crazy on the expense.
