'03 CL600 vs. '03 CL55

I currently have a build date for a '03 CL600 of 02/01/03. Although, I am seriously considering a CL55 instead. Does anyone have an opinion on which car is 'better'? The CL55 has a better braking set-up than the CL600. However, it is hard to pass up a twin-turbo V12! Thanks in advance!

It Varies
Hey Bobby,

There are several differences between the two and you must decide what is more suited to your style. Obviously, the CL600 is more luxurious and has a more luxurious interior. Twin Turbos are definitely something that would be nice and I'm sure the boost will be easily adjusted for more power.

However, I am recieving my CL55 in less than a month and have to say that I am more biased towards the 55 rather than the 600.
Why?

The 55 has a sportier suspension tuned by AMG, sportier seats with AMG crests, a very nice brake system and calipers, AMG Exhausts, and a supercharged engine that roars. AMG rims, instrument cluster, and sills are small details that add to it.

CL600 is for refinement with a secret "Beast" idenitity.

The CL55 is a plain Beast and it shows it.

It comes down to your opinion and what you want from it. Both are, without question, wonderful cars but it all depends on the driver's preference in the end.

Hope this helps........

My CL600 cleared customs 11/15 ,will pick it up hopefully next week.
Decided on 600 vs 55 because if you want to upgrade 55 to 600 level in terms of equipment the price difference becomes irrelevant.
600 has superior torque to weight ratio and with turbos will be much easier to mod.
It will be faster out of the box and sky is the limit mods wise.
I ordered it with sport pkge,so it will look good too.

I work at a dealer and we got a CL600 already. It's very nice, but also quiet. I have heard the 55 engine in the S and SL, it's pretty loud. The 600 hardly makes a sound, which some people might like. The most I have driven it was across the parking lot. A little tap on the gas and it just wants to spin the tires. I don't think you would need to do any mods to the engine. There's not a lot of room left either to add anything under the hood.

Thanks for all of the quick responses! I assumed the 600 would be quieter than the 55. Hopefully, Renntech (or another company) will offer a 'sport' exhaust to liven things up.

I will be interested to hear the feedback from both of you who are receiving the 600 and 55. I sincerely doubt there will be a downside to either vehicle. Throw the 55's brakes, exhaust, and suspension on the 600 and you have the perfect vehicle!

how come only torque goes up with the V-12?? HP stays the same on both engines, (at least that's what the brochure says). the '03 SL600 does have a larger difference in both HP and Torque. just curious.

What difference are you talking about in the '03 SL600? As far as I know, both the SL's (600 and 55) make 500 hp or 493 in American trim. I do not know of any other difference in numbers other than the torque rating.

Will it be easier to reinstate the 550 hp. capacity of the maybach to the TT V12 of the SL? That would be really nice.

What is the achievable top speed of teh SL600 without the limiter? Is it going to be close to the 208 mph of the SL55?

Renntech has an ECU upgrade to 540hp and 660 lb torque, speed limiter raised to 180 mph. They decided to keep it at 180 because of tires limitations(it's a heavy car)
