Big and Heavy 03 CL
I have an 03 with 20's. this is my second set. The first were 8.5x20 front and 10x20 rear. Now I have 9.5x20 both front and rear. The largest tire I run is a 275 with aspect of 30. The fronts are 245 aspect 35. I have seen 295 on the rear but you have to run a 25 series tire...that will be a rough ride and your rims will bend pretty quick. As far as width goes I think you are safe with a rear wheel of 10.5. An 11 will probably require the fender to be rolled and some of the inner fender bolts shaved down...even with a 25 tire. I passed on a set of Kleeman TS6 wheels because the rears were 11's. Too wide. Good luck

2004 CL55
Tim at emotors LLC who helped me lower my CL (he lowers a lot of them here in NorCal) told me that the AMG models have the fenders rolled to some degree already and can hold a wider tire. Whether or not this guy is correct I am pretty sure you will find out in short order, in which case you will have to roll the fenders if you want to go really wide. That said, my 2004 CL55 has 20x10.5 Brabus Monoblock VI on the rear with a 305/25 tire so without any rolling on my part, they fit. Lowering the car has meant that on the biggest freeway undulations (where the car automatically lowers itself further), they do rub a little, but not enough to bother me. I love the wheels but boy you have to be careful running such low profile wheels. Would not recommend if the roads are sh*# where you live, or if you have to keep the plush ride.

Wow! Could you please post or PM me a rear-end pic of your 55? I was debating going with a 295 but was concerned about clearance issues. I can't imagine how a 305 would look. Actually, I don't think my car has the RWhp to even get a 305 rolling. I talked with Kleeman about an 11 with 295 and they said "should" fit but the website indicates the need for rolling the fender on a 500. Your guy might be right about the 55 being a little different.

Yeah I need to get out there and take some new pictures. I will do that this week and post again here just check back in. I just got new rear tires by the way. I had a screw lodged in one of those beautiful 305s plus the tread was about gone so I got the same ones again, 305/25 on the 10.5 inch rim (rear tires only).

Your guy is right about the fenders being rolled if the tires don't stick out. My cl600 had 10" with 295s on the back and it was all that could fit. I would stick with 9.5s on the rear with 295 max or expect some rub if you lower. I know from experience.

Yeah those wheels look like maybe they would stick out beyond the body of the CL500. A funny choice quote from this ad about those very tires:
"NOT EVEN VIPER HAS SIZE 25 TIERS"
