ugly sound from belt

when the car is cold i would here a ugly sound from the belt area.(sound like if you were to take a nail and move it up and down on a chalkboard)
but as soon as the car warm up sound goes away.
i went to autozone and bought belt dressing (no help at all)
i look at the belt look good no crack
has anyone ever has this problem in the pass?

I have the same problem. I too used dressing with no luck as well as changed the belt. Usually let it warm up a bit before I go anywhere. It sucks to be driving down the street with my car squeeling like a pig.

Last time I brought my car in I guess the tech noticed this or something like it and replaced my belt under warranty...

Thought thats what it was. I've done other vehicles, but I haven't changed on on a cl before, so not sure what it takes to do it. It would depend on where on the front of the engine its located and what has to be taken off to remove it. A chev truck takes about 15 minutes, others could take hours if the rad has to come out ( which isn't likely, just an example).

What does your invoice say for parts and what (hours) for labor?

You could also give another dealer a call and ask them what the book rate to re and re a belt tensioner for your vehicle. There are posted "book" rates for various items. See if what you find out makes sense compared to what you were charged.

Sounds like a pretty good deal. Was that from an MB stealer or an independant?

the parts cost 192.00 wholesale price
labor is 4 hrs @85.00 (but really about a hr and half)

most all the dealer where im at are all the same when it comes to labor
it is just the parts that are different

I look at the tension roller it look easy to get in there
there is enough space and you dont have to remove the rad
the only think is you might need a special tension tool make the job easier

i see give about a week i might do this myself
and if i do i take some picture and post it

i got my abc change at 70k under warranty

As I was reading the problem, it sounded like a tensioner bearing. It looks like all turned out fine. Keep that baby in shape!
