Looking to buy 03 CL600

It's between this and a 04-05 E55. I've driven both of em' and was completely and utterly BLOWN AWAY by the CL. I didn't think much of it when i stepped into at first, it was whisper quiet and buttery smooth. As i got on the freeway and layed my foot down to the floor the car just took off. i couldn't even floor it through a whole gear without catching up to slower traffic(slower traffic as in 80-85 mph). i've driven a few e55s' and i thought they were fast but this twin turbo v12 CL is in a completely different league. the power delivery is so smooth, yet so violent and brutal. Aside from that the car has 52k miles no warranty and the guy is asking 30,900. sure enough the car is cheap but what is maintenance like on these machines? gas mileage? I'm a pretty young guy and money is not growing out from trees for me like most of the guys on this forum. Any input would be much appreciated. Thanks in Advance.

2012 S600
I've own both a 2003 & 2004 CL600. I wouldn't own a CL600 out of warranty.
Save more cash and wait to get a 600 in warranty. The repair cost can be staggering. Good Luck!

A Mercedes obviously!
Based on what I've seen out there you should be able to do quite a bit better than $31k for an '03. Cars.com have dozens of CL600s that will be able to give you some prices so you can at least negotiate with this person based off that. I found a nicely equipped '03 600 with less miles for just $29,000...In this market be prepared to offer at least 10%, maybe even 20% off the posted price off the bat.

Don't forget to get a PPI done before you purchase, and see someone who regularly works on Mercedes and are familiar with the car. If you post your location someone from there might be able to recommend someone to pay a visit to for this.

There are quite a few threads on the W221 and W220 forums about the engine, the V12s did use to have quite a few problems. Read up there first so you don't get any nasty surprises.

As for fuel economy, well you are buying a twin turbo V12....it's not a car I'd consider if I was price sensitive when it came to fuel prices!

Lastly don't forget to check the cost of insurance before you buy...as a 24yr old myself I've had a few shocks when getting insurance quotes that have skewed my choice of car!

I asked this same question in another thread and got no responses.....from the minimal research that I have done, a warranty is a must for the V12.

'08 CL600 with 152k km; '01 E430 4Matic with 428k km; '17 Porsche Cayenne with 103k km
second the warranty

We have an 04 CL600...and let me tell you, make sure you have a warranty. Over $6K in repairs this year alone, all electronically related. Misfires and other maintenance items. Luckily the air suspension problems were fixed before the warranty expired. Otherwise, that would've been another $3K.

You don't have air suspension since your car is equipped with ABC. It's a hydraulic suspension.
