Upgrade to Bi-Xenon Headlights?
How do you install 2004+ bi-xenon lights on a xenon CL? My friend and I are stuck. He has a 2002 CL500 (all the 2002 CL's came with xenon, right?). He purchased genuine updated headlights from a 2004 CL. On the newer bi-xenon headlights, there are three sockets in the back. However, on the current xenon ones he has, it looks like there are only two sockets. We didn't take his old lights out becuase we weren't sure and didn't want to go through the hassle.
Or is this just a swap and play?
Or does he have to buy an adapter of some sort?
I searched the forum but couldn't really find any helpful device for this car.

I believe all CLs are equipped with bi-xenon headlights. The newer version have clear lenses, while the earlier ones have the "ripped" look
lenses. I understand the newer versions give a better light. (My 2001 certainly, on the lower beam, is not very effective.)..

Thing is, his 2002 has only 2 sockets for plugging wires in, while the newer ones have 3. That's the problem we're having. He and I thought it was going to be as easy as unplugging the wires from the old headlight, then just plugging the wires into the new headlights.....Not the case. We have an extra socket and are clueless what to do. And we both are horrible at electronics and stuff like that.

All W215s are bi-xenon. I remember the 03 SL500 having xenon only with bi-xenon being an option.
The only difference, besides cosmetic lookswise, from the 01-02 v 03-06 is that the 03-06 ones have auto-leveling. Which means when you start the car, the lights turn on, then the lenses move upward depending on weight in the car.

I guess that makes it a bit easier (I hope.)
Problem is, the headlights of my friend's 2002 CL has 2 sockets. The newer updated ones have 3. Are the 2 existing wires from the car just a direct plug in to the new headlights?
I'm guessing the 3rd socket on the newer headlights are for the auto-leveling? So what should we do for auto-leveling? How should that be done when he only has two wires? Is an adapter needed or something?
Because people that have updated to bi-xenons on the W220 S class used this:
Is this even needed now?
Will the auto-leveling even work on a 2002 CL? Is that something programmed into the car, or just into the lights themselves?

Really? You sure? Even in 2002 they all had bi-xenons?

If I recall correctly someone there was a thread about doing this, try searching the forum for it. Sorry, I don't know anything else about this.

02 CL 500
The 00-02 are xenons and 03-06 are bi-xeons. I bought a bi-xenon and try to install in my 02. It doesn't work, you need to buy a adapator, it costs $300 from a guy on ebay and he has to ship it to you from Germany. Search the thread for the guy's info. If you find any other way other than the adapator for $300 please let me know. I have my headlights sitting in my garage.

I've searched for the guy's info, can't find it. Can you provide the link for the guy with the adapter?
