FOR WHAAAAAAAAAT!

You can make the Distronic work, you'll just need to cut out a box and add something like the S class has.....

That's got me thinking:
1. Can you retrofit Distronic?
2. Is the Distronic sensor capable of being detached from the star and mounted elsewhere?

1.) Yes
2.) yes but no where better than there. It might not do as well on the bottom grill.

Anybody got a how-to on retrofitting Distronic? That, Linguatronic and the fridge in the back seat are the only extras I don't have. Every CL I looked at with a fridge it was mankey, but Linguatronic and Distronic are definitely on my list of enhancements.

Linguatronic? The **** is that, son?

As for the Disco, best bet is to have Steve do it for you and that isn't cheap but it isn't shabby work either.

He's a Sponser here by the name of MBenzNL

He's from the Netherlands or somewhere but he's a global dude, always somewhere by someones request. I'm sure as hell positive he frequents your country so if you want it all that bad I'm sure he'll work out a deal for you.

Here is his Site..

Only person you can call when you need to add Factory stuff. Even your dealership pays him to do it lol.

Ah thanks. I am aware of Steve, having taken some advice from him before retrofitting my telephone system. Despite being based in Holland but seems to get over your side of the pond more than here. I've been pondering the usefulness, or otherwise, of Distronic. Anyone care to offer any observations?

I do a lot of motorway and autobahn travel. I'm struggling to see the value there. I thought it would be more useful in traffic?

Not sure, don't have it. When I was shopping for my car I asked about it and that was the response I got. Parktronic however I will not live without!

My Denali doesn't have it and I cry when I parallel park.

I'm with you on parking sensors. Cost me £150 when I backed into a bollard in a rental Audi without them.

WTF's a Denali? Sounds like a curry dish.

I agree the Distronic is less useful on the Autobahn, but on long distance trips on US Interstate Highways and Canadian Highways - with much less traffic - it is very useful. It also helps avoid speeding tickets by locking onto a car in front of you, that is going over the speed limit.....

Nope, still don't get it. As I understand it Distronic measures the distance to the car in front and applies braking power if you are too close. How is that of value on a motorway unless the traffic is densely packed?

I'm even more confused by your speed trap technique. If you lock on to a car exceeding the speed limit surely you will be exceeding the limit too and thus just as likely to get caught?

I understand how to use it. It's why you would use it in motorway conditions I struggle with. If the aim is not to exceed the speed limit surely cruise control is better?

I can see the value in heavy traffic, whether on a motorway or in town conditions, it's the references to using it on interstates with less traffic that puzzle me.
