CL600 2003 NAV Bluetooth cupholder
Hello,
Just got the CL600 2003 (CK60 V12 with Carlsson package) and hope to find answers here on the forum to the following questions:
1. Navigation says "route cannot be determined" after I enter the destination. Do I need to "reinstall" the navigation CDs
2. Based on what I read here on the forum, V60 bluetooth adapter works nicely with an iPhone (3G and 4).
3. Trunk lid makes noise (coming from the right) when closing. Is this the vacuum pump making the noise or something else?
4. Cupholder. Love the star-wars move it makes when it opens but I removed it. Is there a simpler cupholder I can place in the compartment, something that does not go up and unfolds?
5. iPod integration. Is AUX the only way to integrate iPod (iPhone 4) with the audio system? Are there more integrated options available?
Thank you.

I think I saw that one on eBay.
1. Does this happen for all destinations?
3. That is the hydraulic pump. It is pretty loud. Does the auto-open work?
4. I just leave it empty, that way it can fit a large bottle of water.
5. You can get a fiber optic kit to replace the CD changer. This is the best bet, as it integrates correctly with the steering wheel controls. The Dension D2B is probably the best bet:

You also need the iPod cable (that kit only includes the USB cable which only works with a USB thumb drive).

@saintz:
Thank you for a quick response. Yes, that is the one listed on ebay. On a day when I went for a test drive, several people did the same and decided it had "too much power" for them. Car is in like-new condition.
Fiber optic kit - noted. I will have to get that for sure. Will this work with the iPhone 3G / iPhone 4?
Navigation does the same thing for any destination. It shows me the general direction in which I need to go but it does not show the map. The voice says "route cannot be determined."
Auto-open on the trunk works. Closing the trunk per button also works but there is that noise and then some whirring before it finally shuts the trunk lid. For such a fast car, trunk lids opens and closes too slowly )))

Have you hit eject to make sure there is a NAV CD in the navigation slot? My guess is you have a CD in but it is for the wrong region in which you reside.
The hydraulic ram for the trunk is probably low on fluid. You get a little leaking over time at the o-rings, etc. You need to remove the battery as the pump sits under the battery in a compartment.
Look at the level of the fluid in the white/clearish plastic reservoir.
You can take the white/clearish plastic reservoir off the pump by removing the hose clamp and fill it with Hydraulic fluid or Pentosin CH-11.

@awiner.
Thank you for a detailed diagnosis of the trunk lid/hydraulic pump noise issue. I will definitely look into that immediately.
Since I did not get a full set of NAV CDs, I will have to buy a set first and take it from there.

CK60 stands for Carrlson Performance Package. This car has 625HP (or was it 615?), Carlsson 20" forged wheels (which are 50% or so lighter than the original ones), ECU upgrade, TCU Upgrade and Digital Lowering Module.
Of all things, the growl of the V12 (along with Carlsson exhaust pipe sound) is my favorite.
CL600 feels like a race car to begin with. With a Carlsson performance package, it takes some getting used to - it reaches 60mph in about 4 seconds.
The interior is impeccable (Alcantara and tan leather). Cup holder seems like a fine piece of engineering as well but I won't be using it
I will take some pictures over the weekend and upload here.

They support iPhone 3G - which is great because I have no other use for it.
Thanks again for the answers. I am checking with the dealer if they forgot the nav CDs somewhere...

Quick update. Working on getting the trunk sorted out. The latch and the trunk strut on the right was a bit iffy so it will have to be replaced, along with the trunk actuator. I am sure it will be really cool once it all works smoothly and I will figure out how to play the theme from "2001" for dramatic effect.
I am still trying to grasp the genius behind the nav system which expects the driver to be a disc jockey when driving across state borders. Benz must have been slow in adopting new technology on the dash because they were spending too much time in the trunk fumbling with actuators and hydraulics.
Fortunately, voice navigation on an iPhone is a great replacement for the built-in nav. I have MapQuest app and Garmin North America app and they both work great. Garmin works even in places without a data connection.
Still waiting on the V60 Bluetooth puck to arrive.
Air-conditioned console compartment - totally awesome.
Getting up to 15 mpg so far.
Driving in S-mode and C-mode, with ABC, about 50/50.
The growl of the V12 - priceless.

Glad you noticed. Car is no longer available for sale on ebay. I was looking to sell it and get a flitzer with a standard transmission. If I get one of those Porsches, I can fit them both in the garage lol
Is this not the car that you just bought? Its back on EBay, what happen ???

I am not sure I understand , did you decide to keep the car for now or did you sell it ? I was considering a 2003 CL600 also and very interested in knowing ore about your impressions .

sorry about delayed reply. I decided to keep it. It is simply one of the best driving machines one can get in this price range and a great platform for upgrades and tuning. What prompted me to list it for sale initially was the unclear maintenance schedule. This is not so much a matter of cost but more a matter of keeping the car in top notch condition.
The only other car that compares to the CL is possibly Aston Martin and those will cost substantially more to acquire (except that V12s are not available in the US anymore).
