2003 CL600 V12TT Muffler Delete
I did this recommended mod yesterday and my V12TT went from sounding like electric hybrid to a nice little purr, more like it should sound. You can hear what the motor is doing now when driving the car, if you don't want to hear it just turn the radio on and it mostly gone.
An added plus is I lost 22lbs, well more like 20lbs when you add back the weight of the new straight pipes.

Sorry I have nothing to make a video with, but there are several others on this board that have posted them and some on you tube also.
Like this SL600, I would say mine is very close to this, maybe not quite as loud.

Good read on this thread also .....

Not yet I have not had time to compare the different brands that offer the ECU / TCU tune.
I know you get his a lot but your V12TT CL600 and the mods you made helped me pick my car.
Whats up next for you ?

I dont want to hijack the thread but what would do you think a true 3" dual exhaust comming off each turbo would do for the engine?
I know very little of these cars specifically, and i dont want to re-invent the wheel so to speak, but on many 4cyl turbo applications going to a 3" exhaust on a single turbo yields gains of 30rwhp. I figure with an extra 8 cylinders and 2 turbos 60rwhp isnt completely out of the question, especially if boost is turned up. Just a thought...

I asked the same question and I was told that on the dyno they only saw a 15rwhp difference on a CL65 without a tune. I guess the exhaust is high flowing already from factory.

What would that be ??
Change out the cats ? How hard is this, can it all be done from under the car? What kind of gain will we see ? What will it sound like ?
Do a resonator delete ? Will we get a drone on the car ? What kind of gain will we see ? What will it sound like ?
Do a muffler delete ? What kind of gain will we see ? What will it sound like ?
I did this an am happy with the sound.

the 600 dpipes are big enough for the amount of air youre moving and they are mandrel bent and an interesting oval shape (kinda cool), the stock exhaust is 2.75 inches. Replace everything from the dpipes back with 3in mandrel bent, remove the factory resonator and muffler and replace with any free flowing exhaust. MAKE SURE its a tru 3inch all the way to the exhaust tip. You will not get a drone with this setup. Although this goes against turbo theory, I didnt find a huge gain after going from stock-highflow-no cats. Have you seen my old exhaust setup?

[QUOTE=JAYCL600;4869995]i think i took down a bunch of pics after while because i got paranoid and too competitive , i eventually went catless.
LOL, well thanks for sharing, where did you car end up anyway ?
I don't think I can go catless and pass Ca smog ??
The 3" pipe looks good, there is a section at the center of my CL600 that is pretty flatted out, right at where an undercarriage brace is, what did you do there, just ditch the brace and run 3" ?
What mufflers did you run? And why any mufflers at all ?
Thanks

yes that BS x-pipe crushed nonsense I took out, its only for sound, turbo cars dont need x or h pipes. You will not pass smog, keep your stock cats. I used some cheap vibrant brand mufflers that high HP supras were using, I wasnt concerned with sound. This setup made 15rwhp peak to peak and 35rwhp under the curve. No clue where the car ended up, someone got lucky. I now drive a 115hp jetta

- With cats, then 3in mandrel bent all the way back I might be looking at 5-10rwhp ? Alot of $ for not much gain ?
- Since I have to leave the cats maybe I should just delete the resonator and x-pipe crushed section and have a clean 2.75 mandrel bent OEM all the way ?
- Also I think the OEM is a bit larger than 2.75, my exhaust guy barely slipped a 3" pipe over to top of the OEM ?

So if your 3in mandrel bent with NO cats got you 15rwhp then......

peak HP means nothing, its under the curve that counts
one more tip, ditch your stock HE for a CL65 HE, its a direct fit and 50% larger

Also what other mods did you have?
And thanks for the tip on the CL65 HE, any place to get one cheap?

Hey not to be Captain Obvious, but if its power you are truly after get a ECU tune!!! Based on what I have seen, the 600's respond better than anyother MB to just a tune. It will be less than the cost of a decent exhaust unless you are just patching in pipe and removing cats and mufflers. Do your homework talk to tuners read up on what people like and dislike filter out the nonsense and the "my guy is the best" garbage and get a tune. Until you have a tune you will not realize the ability to maintain normal driving comfort and have alot more power when you want it. Even tuners who sell exhaust systems will tell you the gain is minimal its more for sound....In my opinion its something you do later on after all other mods, when you are maintaining higher boost and looking to squeeze every last hp out of a car. Personally I'd rather spend my money on power and putting it to the ground, not sound. Then again maybe its just the sound you are after

For starters sorry for necroing this old thread but I figured I'd rather reply here than start a completely new thread about it;
I have a 2000 CL600 and I've also thought of removing the mufflers to bring the car to life. The only thing I'm wondering is the possible effect of not having twin turbos on the sound. I tried to search for muffler removal threads on the internet about the non-TT CL600 but couldn't find any so I decided to post here instead.
I'm sure some bright mind here could theorize if the sound on the non-TT, when the mufflers are removed, would be louder/quieter than on the TT cars.
Thoughts?
Thanks in advance!
