Arrow V12TT Exhaust Modification.....

My dilema is if I remove everything from the exhaust manifolds back, I don't believe I will be able to pass emissions in NJ and the drone at highway speeds.

I don't have any concern about how loud the exhaust is or O2 sensor CEL lights. The CEL light I will turn off via STAR.

So, trying to have the least restriction possible, what is the best course of action?

Just remove the rear mufflers and add the tips back on. It's the exhaust mod of choice for us V12TT owners.

Click YouTube link in my sig for sound clip.

Thanks Benz-O,
Wouldn't having the primaries removed as well as the secondaries and mufflers give me the most hp gain?
My objective is really about achieving flow & peak hp numbers.

Really, in my experience the gains will be tiny by removing these in exchange for a lot more cabin noise. Nowadays even the cats offer very minor restrictions. You'd be better off concentrating your attention on a remap and then intercooler setup for more power.

Ah, I see you have had it remapped by Eurocharged (as have I). I've had lots of turbo cars and getting the charge cooled temp. down is probably the next step for us. We have small turbos producing lots of heat at high boost (about 21 psi with the Eurocharged tune). The chargecooler set up has its work cut out. Ideally the engine needs larger charge coolers. I'm currently looking at whether larger generic ones can be made to fit.

In the UK methanol is widely available and is half the price of gasoline (but also half the calorific value). I add a 10% mix (no more!) to the tank and see large seat of the pants bhp gains. I've tried water/meth injection on other turbo cars and didn't see the same gains.

There's not a lot of drone on the V12 cars - we've done several straight-out exhausts where it's been legal and the cars all sound awesome. Not nearly as loud as you think they'll be.

I am really looking to help the car breathe more freely, but my #1 desire is to pick up as much power as possible.
Having the car on a lift recently, I noticed the exhaust starts as dual but then connects to a single pipe just before the resonators, then splits back to dual.....then travels through the resonators and mufflers.

I think I may go:
Primary cat delete, keep the stock mufflers and resonators in place and install DMH electric cut-outs just before the resonators. This way it's quiet when I need it to be and ferocious when I flip the switch. :nix

Paging John Nouri - I'm Ready!!

Arrow Installation Set for DMH Cutouts On My 600

My update - So I am forgoing the Primary Cat delete. I do not want to mess with my warranty and flush that money down the toilet when/if it ever gets voided. I have been getting some credible information that I could get my warranty voided if I have an engine issue and they find I removed the primaries and O2 sensors. No big deal, though....
The warranty is more important anyway.

So we ( and by "we", I mean John Nouri) are installing DMH electric cutouts and removing the "merged" exhaust to make it 2 straight 3" pipes.
For some reason, the S600 has the exhaust go from 2 pipes into one pipe, back to 2 pipes before the resonators and mufflers....

Car goes in on Tuesday 8/16 for the mod.
I will put up some driving and sound videos so you can check it out.

I bought cutouts for my SL600 at first. After getting it up on the lift, we found that there was no place to tuck them up. They were going to hang down pretty low, even with the low-profile (oval) cutouts. Don't know about the S600, but hopefully you'll find a nice place to tuck them up.

Many (most?) V12s have crossovers fitted for noise reasons and not for torque as in the V8. Without them you may get unpleasant drone but possibly a bit more power.

It's definitely tight through the center section, but there is a spot after the single pipe section, where there is 14 to 16 inches of straight pipe, leading to the resonators, to place them.
Or I could be talking out my coulo.....
I had it on a lift this past weekend and thought there would be enough room, but John at Broadway Performance will know what to do. He's the professional.
I will keep you posted...

This bi*ch of a hurricane, Irene, has derailed me picking up my car. The Garden State Parkway has been closed, yes I said closed and I can't drive my ride home.
John from Broadway Performance tells me the car sounds off the chart. I'm sure he's right on......we'll see when I go and get her this coming week. But for now I am making sure I have enough gas for my generator when the power goes out for a few days.....

I will get a vid up when I ger her back.

kiss my grits, Irene!

Anybody with any experience with the Meisterschaft GTC/EV exhaust? Seems like the bestow both worlds - whisper quiet when you want and throaty when you want.
Expensive though -$4500 for the W216 CL600

You should try and post a new message rather then jumping into this thread with an unrelated issue/question.
You may get a better response and won't derail this thread. Thanks.

Re: exhaust modification

I'm sorry but the title was exhaust modification and that is exactly what I asked a about.
How is this a highjack?

So what is the verdict? video or sound clip or photos? Very curious to see how she turned out.

So the mod is complete. I love the way it sounds with the cutouts open.
I have no video yet, but will work on one today...just to clarify, I had the first and second resonators removed, DMH electric cutouts installed, and had the switch run into the glovebox. We didn't flush mount the switch so the wouldn't be a hole if I ever had to remove it.
Stay tuned for the vid today....

Scratch the "video today" on my last post.
I will get it up as soon as I can. It definitely sounds better in person after my initial computer review of the vid.
But, I still totally love the added sound.

V12TT 2003 CL600 Muffler Delete

I did this recommended mod yesterday and my V12TT went from sounding like electric hybrid to a nice little purr, more like it should sound. You can hear what the motor is doing now when driving the car, if you don't want to hear it just turn the radio on and it mostly gone.

An added plus is I lost 22lbs, well more like 20lbs when you add back the weight of the new straight pipes.

On the below photo, what looks like an added weld on the left side is not, its just where they burnt off a sticker, you can see the same thing on the right of you look close. The guy used predone section of mandrel bent pipe.

How about a video with sound?
Looks nice
How did you get the chrome tips off?
I tried to remove my to clean them and they won't budge even with a rubber mallet.

Sorry I have nothing to make a video with, but there are several others on this board that have posted them and some on you tube also.

Like this SL600, I would say mine is very close to this, maybe not quite as loud.

The chrome tips do come off, that was my part off the job, just remove the bolt and tap the side with a rubber mallet to loosen them up, then tap them from the back.
