Problems after doing the brakes!
Hi everyone,
I replaced the front brakes and left caliper on my 02 CL500. Immediately afterward the ESP and BAS messages came on and said visit workshop. The ABS light came on also. The speedometer needle bounces around for 10-15 seconds then settles down and the ABC visit workshop comes on then and the power steering is out. The cruise control does not work, it says to visit workshop also.
Help! Is this all related to doing the brakes?
It sounds expensive just to save a few bucks on doing my own brakes.

It could be many things from something small to something expensive. Bad wheel sensor, abs sensor, brake sensor. Look at the wiring on the items you worked on and anything close by you may have affected.

I had this exact issue. It has to do with the ABC speed sensor or its related counterparts.
When the speed sensor becomes implausible the system will throw the ABC/ESP/BAS errors and shut down anything that has to do with speed sensitive input such as power steering, cruise control, etc.
I would check your ABC speed sensor's located behind the dust shield on the front brakes.
Did you happen to remove the front hubs for any reason ?

Maybe, no reason not to rule out easy stuff first.
As far as the cluster needle, power steering, and cruise control issues, sounds like somebody did some electrical repairs at some point but messed something up (bad solders, for example). So no, it has nothing to do with the brake job. EDIT: nevermind yes they can, abs wheel speed sensor can affect most of these.
Tbirdjpb, you may want to elaborate on what you mean when you say the power steering is "out."

Reply to power steering is out
Thank you for your quick responses.
When I say the power steering is out, I mean the car is harder to steer when the ABC message comes on.
Thanks again... Jeff

Your problems are probably going to be related to the ABS sensor that's plugged into your hub. Make sure it's seated properly and properly reconnected. I think nlieber already said this in the first response.
As far as the ABC and power steering, I don't see how that can be related to the brake job.

Oh boy. I had the SAME problem. I bet you didn't use the Mercedes OE bearings and races did you?
See my full report and the fix here: https://mbworld.org/forums/mercedes-...ml#post4828483
Your issue definitely is mechanical and located in the hub/tone sensor/abc speed sensor on the side the bearing(s)/Race(s) were replaced.
When your car doesn't get valid speed sensor readings it goes into a disable mode and all power sensative options are turned off. So yes, your power steering while that malfunction is present is indeed not working.
