Cool Transmission trouble

Hi Everyone

It would seem that my 2000 CL600 has come to the end of its life. (265 000 Kms).

After driving the car for 20 mins, I attepmted to park it, placed it in reverse, and only had neutral. I then turned the car off, and back on again and had reverse.

3 Hours later I started the car, and drove off. I noticed a whining noise and suddenlt the car lost all drive while on the freeway. I pulled over, restarted the car, and the gears were back, along with the whining noise.

I then parked the car, and took it to the shop the following day. On the way to the shop, the car kept losing drive. This happened 4 times in 10Km.

The car is full with transmission fluid, but is making the sound it would make when low.

The mechanic has just told me that there is a problem inside the transmission, as they have done all of the cleaning of harnesses and so on.

What could the problem be here?

Thanks in advance

I think you have a transmission rebuild or swap in your future. Given how simple and common the 5 speed is, that might not be too bad. Best to get a quote from your mechanic. Possibly just a valve body swap is required.

how old is your fluid? if it's over 40,000 miles the fluid may be contributing to the problem.

How many miles did you have on the old fluid before the change that is now causing some issues ?

Today I had to drive the car from the mechanic, to the body shop. It was only 2kms, but the car felt normal. It was stop and go, but the shifts between 1st and 2nd were smooth as normal. Never got a chance to run through the rest of the gears. The car was cold, so no idea if it would run any worse when warm...

Codes...

So I have had the car scanned, and the following problems come up:

110 - The speed comparison of Y3/6n2 to Y3/6n3 is sporadically implausable. (Resistance too low)

116 - Component Y3/6s1 (Starter lockout contact) or component Y3/6b1 (Transmission oil temperature sensor) is sporadically faulty or both. (Resistance too low)

146 - The transmission has sporadically an impermissable transmission ratio. (Resistance too high)

147 - The gear is sporadically implausable or the transmission slips sporadically. (Resistance too high)

151 - the gear comparison is sporadically negative or the target gear has sporadically not been achived. (Resistance too high)

Any asistance with this matter is most welcome.

....no response....

Looks like everyone who has read this is stumped!

My thoughts are to replace the condutor plate, remove, clean and inspect the valve body...

I will first drain all the fluid out of the transmission, including the torque converter. I will alow it to drain over 24 hours, and only then begin repairs...

Any advice or thoughts will be most welcome.... I feel very much alone here....
