Keyless Crap
Other faults: Drivers electric seat will not move forward to let passengers into the rear, weird clicking noise from the steering wheel, rear boot soft closure making weird noises...
All these problems in addition to the vandalism it suffered from hooligans when it was only 6 weeks old, makes me wish I had bought a Toyota

Am thoroughly irritated by my newest Mercedes coupe (my fourth one). It has refused to start for the second time now, with the display saying that the gearbox is "not in PARK" when it clearly is. Basically shuts itself down and wont even start with a key. The car got stranded and I was unable to start it or even lock it - just the one time when I happened to park somewhere slightly dangerous for 2 minutes...
Actually, I also had the same problem one time and was furious about that as well

It is, however, not an issue with keyless go.
First, there is a quick, but annoying fix. Just disconnect the battery (in my case the rear battery of the SL55). That will reset the system and get you going again.
You will have to recalibrate the ESP by turning the steering wheel from lock to lock; you may also need to calibrate the windows again in a CL. Any other error messages should clear out within a few miles of driving.
The actual culprit was the shift selector and it was replaced. Even though it looks like it is a mechanical shifter, it is just an electronic switch. I would go to
Mercedes and have them replace it, even disregarding any error codes as they proved inconclusive in my case.
When we used to have the CL (2001), I was also forwarned that any spillage into the gear gate from drinks set in the rather flimsy cupholder (for example, during emergency braking) could short out the electronics and could render the car useless as well. Different issue, but probably a similar culprit

On the other hand, I have enjoyed the ownership of our CL tremendously and would buy one again.
Hope this helps and you get your problems resolved...

your wouldn't start problem just happened to me last wednesday
, I had the roadside guy try to fix it on site, but end up had to tow back to dealer. the roadside guy told me that was a switch on the transmission which tell the drive more and that switch is busted, all they have to do is get that switch replace. but still it is pain in the A$$ when it happen
. I had that fix within the next morning and it is fine now.
I just want to ask is these just happen to me or you guys have the same problem!!!
1-Will your engine shut off and door lock by itself if you walk away with your key card?? Mine don't, but all my friends in HK do!!!! they don't have to shut off, just walk away and the car will do the rest.
If the answer to #1 is NO, try #2:
2-Did you guys ever try leave the engine running; walk away with your key card and ask your friend try to drive it away, see what will happen, Mine will drive as a normal car. Dash will blink once a while but car still running until that person shut it off. That is pretty scarly, what if the one drive away is not your friend is carthieft?????

But, you're right, on a car like that EVERYTHING should work as it's supposed to...
