New to Mercedes and the CL 600.. I have questions

Hey guys, Im brand new to MB and have come here to digest and inquire some info. I have had performance cars from BMW, P-Car, etc etc, but really have zero experience in the Mercedes world. I have recently acquired a 2002 CL600 in silver, and am aware of the ABC issues as well as other CL600 traits. I have read miles of good and bad regarding this car and some of its flaws...

My question is whether or not I should keep this car and have some fun with it, or sell it and look for a newer version. I have seen a couple posts saying to not get into a V-12 older than an 03. Why is that?
Is a low milage example worth keeping, or is age more of an issue than use?

Below are some of the details that I know about the car.
It is a 2 owner car that was MB serviced its whole life. It has 53,000 original miles, car has a clean car fax, no accidents and original paint. The interior is beautiful and everything works. Im into the car for around $12,000. That seems like a bargain to me if you consider the MSRP new in 02.

Please feel free to share your opinion and give me your thoughts on the 02 CL 600
Thanks in advance

I think everyone will tell you you should have got an 03 car instead. They're more expensive, but there are good reasons for that. Apart from the turbo engines, they're better made and more reliable. However .... I've had two 2001 cars and one 2004, and its the latter that's been the money pit.

Perhaps I was lucky, but the timebomb that's in the back of everybody's mind with the N/A V12 is the engine oil cooler, which is an oil/water heat exchanger between the cylinder banks. It always fails eventually, and you have to remove the cylinder heads, which can write the car off. The TT V12, as well as being much faster, uses a conventional air/oil heat exchanger at the front.

Thanks for the input Nick. Maybe this car will just be a vehicle to keep for the summer then send it on its way. It sure is an amazing car to drive.

They're sensitive to wheels and tyres, even more than airmatic, with the right combo they're magic to drive. Which ones have you got? If the wheels and tyres are too small, you never get to see quite what ABC can do for handling and grip. If they're too big, it spoils the ride. I think the sweet spot is 245/45's on 18 x 8" - same size all round. It feels like that was what the car was designed around; how the engineers intended it to be.
