2004 cl600 oil change
called the dealer today. he quoted me $170.00 for an oil and filter change. sounds really high to me. what are your experiences? they used to charge me $100 for this service on special. no more specials. thoughts.
p.s. this does not include an A, or B service, but does include the 22 point safety inspection.

I change my own oil and filter. Costs about $60. If they put your car on a lift and pull the wheels, that may be where the extra cash is going. Still seems a bit high, even for a dealer.

thanks guys. i'm on the florida treasure coast. called 4 dealers. prices $145, $160, $170, $180. called a foreign car indy who says he charges $75 an hour and he wanted $170. what a ripoff. i think a fair price would be $80-$100. well, there must be something in the air in florida because all prices are pretty similar so far. i'll keep shopping, or maybe do it myself.

I bought an oil extractor (very similar to the one in the link) from my local marina years ago to change the oil in my boat. It worked so well I started using it on my vehicles and you can use it for just about any type of oil. I've used it to evacuate brake fluid from master cylinders as well as to bleed brakes. I've also used it to suck the oil out of the ABC and power steering reservoirs on the CL and with the oil filter located on top of the engine in the Mercedes, it's the easiest oil and filter change I've ever done!

Our engines do hold 8qts. Using the extractor I posted about, I need to drain a quart and a half off in the middle of the procedure.
The extractor has a shut off that will not allow it to over fill/over flow, just in case.

Wondering what everyone else is using for oil extraction. On the first two changes, I went old school and pulled the drain plug. Time for a third change, and am considering an extractor. I have 8 other cars, none of which are currently set up to extract, so a dual purpose unit would be ideal for me. We do have lifts.

I agree. But most of the homeowner types don't have enough capacity for the CL600.
The Griot model is only 6.8 qts. That means I have to stop and empty it, then start back again.

Here's the current state of devices. These are the best prices I found, all but one at Jet.com after 15%-off coupon and free shipping, no tax.

7 liters basic for $32 + FS after 15% coupon at Jet.com: Trac 7
7.3 liter MityVac, $58 + FS at Jet.com after coupon: Mity 7400
8.8 liter Mityvac $90 after coupon: Mity 7201
15 liter HT (also sold by Yamaha) $92 after coupon: Hydro Turf Oil Extractor 3 Chamber P/N Oil03r
use compressed air:
same 8.8 liter Mityvac but with air capability and no pump, $83 after coupon: Mity 7300mv
6.25 gallon on wheels, $119 + tax at Harbor Freight after 20% coupon at store (shipping is $22): 6.25 g Oil Extractor Harbor Freight

For 600 owners, the problem with the mitiyvac at 8.8 liters is the capacity. I think our engines take almost 10 qts.

My extractor only holds about 6.5 qts. No big deal to me. When it's full, it stops sucking oil. I empty the oil from the extractor into a waste oil container and then continue extracting the remainder of the oil from the engine. It is still MUCH easier than getting under the car.
Note - The extractor sucks the oil out much faster when the oil is warm
