Craiglist Scam or not?
Here I stumbled across a local CL600, after I've already bought mine, at less than half the cost but twice the mileage. I can't understate how suspicious I would be of this car, especially since he dropped the price $2800 since it was posted last week. Never the mind the misinformation or the 'will pass inspection' note. I thought it might be fun for others to see this one.

I'm sure it has some issue with it but they all do. Another case of a person buying a high mileage CL because it was under 10K and then realizing that you can't afford to maintain a 125k+ car.
Price is about normal for the color combo/mileage, I bought a black/black fully loaded 03 with 65K for 10. Silver over grey is hideous and the car has 55amg wheels, it's probably not real clean.

$10k makes sense, which it was originally priced at $9800. My suspicion is that it won't pass inspection, he was quoted an absurd number to make it pass, and now he's trying to dump it instead. Could be a bargain, but I'm still betting on nightmare.
I'd have thought the sport package was common, it's just a set of wheels and a very subtle body kit. I wonder how old the pictures are, as well. It's possible he doesn't know how to price it, and priced it alongside comparable CL500's instead, or maybe he's lying about the V12. I've seen that a couple times.

Could be a scam but I've e seen two cl600 biturbo in the San Francisco area for under $6500 recently . I went to look at one personally . They are out there and are legit . Sometimes people need quick money and the way to sell a car quick is to price it low
I would only deal in person and have it inspected , don't buy over the Internet
Not everyone can wait months to sell a car for top dollar . Price it low and it will sell in a day or two

They aren't worth much at all unfortunately. I've bought two from carmax auction wholesale for under 10K and they were both AMG package cars. The used car market is not kind to these types of vehicles, they are really only desirable to an enthusiast mechanic who can work on the car himself. If someone can budget 5K a year to maintain a car like this, they will buy a newer/nicer car. If someone is looking to spend all their 10K of saved up money on a nice car, they don't buy something that is gonna be horrendous to maintain.

The sport body kit is the same as the AMG body. It's not nearly as common and it looks much better than the standard version. The difference is the front/rear bumper covers and side skirts. The wheels are 18" AMG wheels.
The cars are horrindously expensive to maintain and will continue to decrease in value. They will be crushed/parted because the repairs will be higher than the cars value. Not hard to do with ABC issues and bad coilpacks.

Wonder who told him only 20 AMG body kit optioned CL600 W215's were produced between 2003 - 2005. That's totally inaccurate.
Back to the original question though, yes, prices are tanking as the W215 starts to age. I've seen more than a few very nice looking CL600's with 75+k miles at auction for these prices.

MB CL600, Audi RS6 and Porsche Cayenne S
I thought I saw a picture of the CL600 on one of the mb forums. But yes, condition is everything. I paid quite a bit more for my 2005, but it has 46K and a complete warranty through 100K covering ABS and all the other scary repairs surely to be needed at some point.
I'm not sure about these cars depreciating much further though. The value of a V12 biturbo and the accompanying horsepower has real value that translates to late model cars. It's legitimate supercar performance that's not dated. I guess time will tell. Perhaps I'm disillusioned because I'm a recent buyer.

just saw an 03 cl600 brabus on craigslist. 150,000 miles. just replaced coil packs, ignition transformer, spark plugs and battery due to dealer recommendation, not problem. always dealer serviced. a lot of miles, but she said silky smooth engine and tranny no problems. she wanted $5000. i thought it was a scam. when i looked the ad was up for 3 hours. checked 30 minutes later to call and she had taken down ad. ad hasn't resurfaced for 6 day. evidently legit and an unbelievable price for a fully dealer serviced vehicle even with the high miles. freaking crazy. i guess there are some real deals out there occasionally. probably sold within minutes of publishing the ad.

Sir-mix-a-lot did. With the 50 series tires. Because they get good grip.
It also needs an Alpine so he can keep bumpin' the volume higher.
As we all know the 808 Kit keeps the girl's get dumb.
Worth every penny, IMHO.

Friend bought an 03 S600 from auction under 5K already. Has some miles on it and a few small issues but overall in nice shape, fully loaded, even has the split rear seat option, runs and drives great. They aren't worth much sadly. Nicer examples will bring more but the buyer base is VERY small and shrinking by the month it seems.
