Starter replacement how to.

Does anyone have experience replacing a starter on a CL600? I crawled under the car for a while tonight trying to figure out how to go about it. Wanted to get tips from anyone who's done it before.

Thanks.

Is yours an NA or TT?

The latter is more difficult.

Are you sure it's a starter problem? It could be a battery strap or the earth strap. Make sure they're properly bonded first.

NA, Definitely the starter.

Thanks.

I presume your car is left hand drive? That makes it a bit more difficult.

You will need to remove the left hand down pipes / cats, and probably the steering column from the rack (not from the bulkhead).

I would probably support the engine and lower the subframe to provide more access.

You have a Mod 215.378 with a 137.970 engine serial 40 016984

This job is not as simple as some nubs will have you think--the difficult points are--a) removal of the ABC hydraulic line and b) the removal of the right side exhaust system and c) do not be foolish and jack up the engine.

This is not a front yard operation, however do as you like!

Why would you say not to jack up the engine? If the mounts are unbolted, that's the only way to gain space for many operations on many benz vehicles...
