I got a misfire on cyl #3 (P0303). Erased faulty code, drive for about 10 miles the CEL come back (repeating several time). I would like to un-assembly the coil park and clean it. I have a few questions, would you please helps:
1) Can we remove the coil inside the metal tube? just for cleaning. If we can not then how to clean the dirt/oil inside the tube?
2) Can I swap the coils of cyl #2 with cyl #3 for testing? I want to verify the ignition coils problem or anything else. I can do the soldering.

Thank you very much.

Welcome in the "guess what's wrong Show" !

You will not believe it but the toughest thing to do a repair on a coil pack is removing the cover
Heat Gun, a cutter, and being very patient you will break it if not

1) Can we remove the coil inside the metal tube? just for cleaning. If we can not then how to clean the dirt/oil inside the tube?
only thing you can remove is the little spring just pull it
I would just leave it and spray it with contact spray

2) Can I swap the coils of cyl #2 with cyl #3 for testing? I want to verify the ignition coils problem or anything else. I can do the soldering.
yes you can

you can also buy 1 new coil from ebay

don't forget it can also be your 2 sparks on Cyl 3
or a compression problem

Thank you Pmercury,
I follow your instruction to cut the middle section of cover that covers cyl #2 and cyl #3.

Per your recommend, I try to buy 2 coils from motorking.com but it out of stock. I will look at ebay, I concerned about ebay credit, i am not sure we can get a quality one.

I try to buy MOSFET transistor: Infineon GB07N120 from ebay, it takes 60 days for shipping (from china). FQB12P20 is OK. Do you know, where to buy GB07N120 from USA.

One of your post that mentioned about injector for cylinder. where is injector location? Thank you very much.

I ordered 4 Mosfet+2 Iginition coils from ebay. It will arrive on July 09.
This morning, I just removed 2 coils from the pack. Is there any methods to measure the coil? I measured:
1) 3 pins of coil: 2 outer pins is closed=short. Center pin to 2 outer pins are open. Center pin and Spring (inside the coil) = 1930 Ohms.
2) Inside spring and ground are open.

Is it the right value? Thanks.

Seriously I don't remember but best thing to do is to compare with new mosfets and coils
Ill go back to coil packs after I accomplished the converter project

good luck

Pmecury, I really need your helps. Please make sure that I understand correctly. Below are the pictures for you see the problems:
1) DAS faulty code P0303 and P0300. Is it cylinder #3 misfire?

Coil #3 A&B removed from coil pack. Did I remove the right one (coil#3 A&B)? the Coil pack is the right hand-side (passenger side).

2 Coils (Cyl#3), 2 IGBT transistors(SGB07N120) and MOSFET(FQB12P20) removed. Did I removed the right one?

Mosfet and IGBTs. Did I removed the right one?

I measured IGBTs and Mosfet, they are OK. I have mentioned the coils measurement on previous post, seem like it is also OK (compared with good coil on the same pack).
Now I concerned that I have been looked at wrong components (not cyl#3)? If I look at the good components then of course it will be OK. Thanks.

P.S. Spark plugs just replaced.

yes likely

2 Coils (Cyl#3), 2 IGBT transistors(SGB07N120) and MOSFET(FQB12P20) removed. Did I removed the right one?

I installed new Mosfets and 2 ignition coils for cyl#3. The problems is still, CEL is still coming up. I hood up DAS to monitor faulty count and observed:
1) At idle: mostly faulty count is on cyl#2 and cyl#3. Cyl#2 is usually about 2 counts and cyl#3 about 4 counts.
2) Driving in town, engine temperature is above 90C: when I slow down at traffic light the faulty counts on both cylinders go up, cyl#2 is about 7 and cyl#3 is about 14. When I put the accelerator pedal the faulty counts drop to 0 on both cyls.
3) Driving in the freeway, speed above 65mph: try to keep constant speed then the faulty counts is about 2 and 4. When increase the accelerator, the faulty count drop to 0.
4) The faulty count are happening more in right band (cylinder 1 to 6). Left band is less, one a while which shows 1 or 2 and max is 4.

Now, I want to clean the MAP and MAF sensors but I don't know their location. I searched online and couldn't find the information of MAP and MAF for 2006 Mercedes S600. If you know where to get the information then please helps. I would appreciated.

I found 3 MAPs: 2 MAPs attached to air filter housing, part# A500 153 50 28 and another MAP attached to Intercooler on passenger side, part# Bosch 0261 230 191 (it is item 110 in your diagram). I have a few questions, please helps:
1) I searched for MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor for my car (2006, S600) but I could not find it. Look like, my car doesn't has MAF sensor, is it true? or where is it locate.
2) I also looked for fuel regulator but I could not find it. The fuel regulator could built inside the fuel filter, is it right? I would like to replace fuel regulator, because I have negative long term fuel trim on both banks (about -15%)
3) I would like to buy repair manual. What branch are you referring? I found several DVD repair manual online but I don't know which one is good.

Thank you Pmercury.

By any chance, did you measure the gate voltage level on the FQB12P20?
If you didn't, are you able to confirm that the ignition wires on the connector to straight through to the mosfets after passing the A/B sparkplug selection gates?
If so, they are probably driven by an 12V signal.

I can't seem to think that they'd use 30V to drive the mosfets.

More info about the coil pack and the ion current detection:

Did you actually end up comparing the old coil resistances with the new coil?

Reviving an important thread

As a follow up to the V12 Coil options for the Cl600/65, I note on ebay several China Source sellers selling coil packs at prices that range from 550 to 750 USD. Their Brand is Temic which is same supplier for original Mercedes Coil Packs as per this thread.

Anybody tried these? Are they as good as original ? any recommended sources?
