Permanently remove the RED ABC ERROR light after suspension conversion
If you've been following w215 forums for a while, you might remember my 2002 cl500 -> cl55 engine swap a few years back, or the first DIY ABC -> coilover suspension swap
for the suspension swap, I ordered the original Strutmasters kit. Non-adjustable coilover set. Not ABC, but not bad either
as most of you with ABC worries know, in order to fully complete the conversion from ABC suspension to a traditional setup, you must install a chip into the car to remove the ABC error light. the light DOES NOT go away by pressing the reset button. rendering your gas mileage, trip mileage, etc readings as useless.
I had a theory that simply removing the ABC control unit might get rid of the warning light, without buying the strutmasters unit. they used to sell it seperately for $200. kinda scammy
step 1 - open hood
step 2 - locate the ABC control unit in one of the waterproof electrical boxes by the windshield
step 3 - unplug unit and slide it out
step 4 - sell on ebay

I do find it funny that we've all spent so much time trying to fiddle with fuses when the solution was very simple all along. Removing the ABC module took only a few seconds to do
it would be interesting to hook up Xentry and read what that says
There is a option with ABC present or not present
that should be NOT PRESENT of course if you remove the module

is Xentry more in-depth than Star software? I remember visitng workshops and asking if they code out the ABC warnings but no luck. They used STAR

how have you liked the yellow racing setup so far? I'm glad there are more options than just the Strutmasters setup available finally! Your car looks like it has a great ride height
as long you add a sway bar front and if you can rear too it's ok
you get for what you paid for, ok coilovers, not premium
but far better then strutmasters as they have no settings
I found the springs are to soft and will be upgrading them + 8kg soon
I also just received the rear sway bar and will mount it before end of year

You're confusing the ABC controller with the ESP/ABS controller. My new method gives NO RED ERROR, and NO WHITE ERROR. You are incorrect. please do not spread falsehoods on my posts.

It does not work on my 2003 CL 500. The ESP/ABS controller was not touched, and it was not confused. My ESP/ABS controller has a different part number than yours: mine is marked ESP-ABS-etc but number is 220 545 18 32 Q03.

FYI, There are no Falsehoods, just conflicting experience.

that's interesting. I think they changed A LOT of things on this car between 2002 to 2003. Not just the front bumper and AMG options, but seems to be quite a few other things that I'm noticing as well. This might be one of them
To me, now it DOES make sense that you might get an ESP error after removing the ABC module, as an ABC failure could indicate a very serious problem with your ride height, resulting in wheel rub/etc and unsafe driving conditions. Hence why it says ESP warning.
I also think my fuse diagrams are a bit different from you guys... in my attempts to remove some of the old ABC fuses like you guys have, maybe i took out one that helped my ABC module removal get rid of the error lights? It's still a tad weird to me that you guys would get ESP errors from an ABC module? But i can understand
Do you know if your ESP still functions properly without the ABC module?

or, maybe try to replace your ABC fuses, and THEN try removing the ABC module. Perhaps one of the fuses you removed previously have changed the outcome of removing the ABC module? also i would make sure to disconnect the battery for a while to reset everything also
it's hard for me to guarantee this will work if many things have already been altered along the way

You guys were correct, after a battery reset today, I am now getting a new ESP and ABC White warning lamp. Might have to reconsider selling the abc module now
edit: this was because I hadn't reset the steering angle sensor yet. after resetting the battery, it's required to turn the wheel full left and full right to get rid of ABS and esp error

pmercury, with developer mode in STAR, do you think we can disable the white ABC warning lamp? what about with removing the ABC module, or the fuses you mentioned, is there a way to disable the lamp?

last I recall, I have removed both abc computer and abc fuses
no red warning light. There is still a white warning. I also still have esp functions. I’ll double check sometime soon that I have everything correct
recently tried to code out abc in star, but it only gives you an option to switch to airmatic , which we know would give an airmatic message code instead
smartadze- for what it’s worth, my 2002 W215 seems to have 2003 software as I am able to access dyno mode and such that was only on 2003+ models

Folks, I have a rhd SL55 and I have taken both covers off each side under the dash and cannot see anything that looks like the ABC controller under there. Please help if you can. Cheers.

I have the fronts and backs on the "middle" setting, meaning in the middle of the adjustment rang. I think the fronts are more firm. My advice: Do NOT waste good money on the ABC. Pull it out, put in coils, swap out the pump and enjoy. The ride is like a conventional sprung suspension, of course, but the peace of mind is worth it. While my CL is not a daily driver, I know I never have to fret over the ABC any time I do drive it. And I can live with clearing the white warning on startup...it's no big deal at all and nothing but a trivial inconvenience at the worst.
