Exclamation Hot air in cabin Steering shaft Boot fix

You have hot air / engine smell in your cabin ?

maybe this is your problem

found lower part of Boot broken off

fix is not difficult but long if you have cats

without cats like me it was a piece of cake

the steering column and push the upper part into the cabin

unbolt tho upper bolts of the heat shield and bend a little to make space
unbolt the 3 bolts of the plate holding the boot from under the car
the plate moves then up in the cabin to free the boot

glide the new boot in from under he car

reverse

in the cabin

under the car

This happens on the w210 too...I wrapped fibreglass insulation around the shaft inside the split boot...still did the job 4 years later when I sold the car.

I discovered this when we removed CATS

boot is very cheap if you buy it aftermarket

note also that removing cats will give your car an engine /exhaust smell too . Cats remove this smell
