Chipping the 2003 CL600 Bi-Turbo?

I am considering re-mapping the 2003 CL600 Bi-Turbo chip. Is that possible? By which relalible tuner? and also how can the speed limiter (130MPH) be dissabled? Everytime I pushed the car on the empty freeway, I can feel that the car HAVE more potential to go more than the speed limiter. I had a great experience from GIAC StageII installed in the 996 Turbo. I wonder if they are available for the CL Bi-turbo markets?

by the way, this 2003 CL600 V-12 is amazing... stealth GT cruiser!

Thanks in advance,
EM

it surely is possible, but I'd recommend you to goto a known MB-tuner.. it'll be much safer.. cheap chips will ruin your engine from time to time..

My dealer put Renntech stage 3 (525 hp,660 lb torque at the wheels). The limiter was readjusted to 186 mph at the same time.
My warranty is not affected, make sure to modify your car through an authorized MB Renntech or Kleemann dealer.

Thanks for the info....
but what does Renntech Stage 3 kit includes? how much was it? do you have to get air filter and new mufflers?
I simply wanted to remapped the ECU without putting a new mufflers.... I like the car to cruise smooth and quite at the same time.

how reliable is Renntech compared to Kleeman?

TIA,
EM

RENNTech

I have not seen a Stage 3 RENNTech upgrade package, but I do know that they offer a package that includes: 1) the top speed limiter being removed 2) V12 TT Transmission Computer Upgrade 3) ECU Upgrade. This all in all raises your numbers to 625 Total BHP and 745 Total Lbs.-ft.

As for the reliability, RENNTech has always stood their grounds on their product. RENNTech does not release a product until it has been tried and tested. As for retailer wise and installer wise, I am unsure on who to recommend because I myself have not had this done.

As far as I know that you don't need to ship the car????? For ECU upgrade, it's just to take out, program, and put back??? Am I wrong??? Just PM you.

Get a V-Max to remove the top speed limit.

Correct. ECU and Trans modules are removable. Ship them to Renntech, they will program them and ship them back.

It is definitely quicker, traction issue is on the other hand much more exacerbated.
I'm hoping the LSD and more rubber will solve this problem.

Throttle response is a bit improved,as far as the lag is concerned, never had any issues with it.

decission....decission....

I've just called my friend who is a master MB-technician who will help me taking out the ECUs if I ever decide to put it on...(soon I hope) He told me that the power will definately incrased and the car will run like a **** while tearing up the road. He helped assisting another customer of him with an S600 bi-turbo with RENNtech setup.. it was featured in magazine and 1/4mile for that S-class was 12.1 !!!!

now with that much power on hand... should I be worry about my brake and stopping capabilities? do I need a BIG brake kit upgrade??

I'm not happy with the factory set-up.
Thinking about the upgrade but have already invested too much in this car, will never recover these expenses and there is a new S class on the horizon?

That person is Treynor and he is a member of this forum!
His car is running 11.6 @ 120 mph.....
He has a clip of him running the 1/4 mile..
0-60 in 3.3 seconds
0-100 in 8.5 seconds
You can find the clip in the S-Class forum...
Enjoy..

EM25, I’m very happy with the Renntech stage 3 package on my SL600. There’s plenty of discussion of its merits over there. For example:

Getting a CL600

Years ago my good friend infected me with his desire to own car with a 12 cylinder engine. I studied the possibilities and narrowed my selection down to the Bentley GT, the Aston DB9 and the Mercedes CL65. I even went to a lot of effort to drive each of these cars and concluded that the Aston was the best looking of the three but the Mercedes was the best driver and the easiest to live with. As I stared at the $50,000 price gap between the CL65 and CL600, I finally decided to take the plunge and get the CL600 instead, in a fit of fiscal responsibility. Of course, now I want more power and am looking to the Renntech ECU and transmission mods.

I know there are a few people here who have done this with the SL600 and S600 but wonder if anyone has pursued this with their CL600 and how satisfied with the results they were.

Also, do you have to remove your existing ECU, ship it off to Florida, have Renntech remap it and then wait for it to return? How long does this take?

My dealer handled everything with Renntech directly(overnight shipping etc),all I had to do was to enjoy my loaner ML350.
As to why chip the 600?
First and most important if only to remove the stupid governor that kicks in at 130 mph.
Second, there is no such thing as too much power!

Better than I expected

Picked up my 2004, CL600 this weekend. It has much more power and is more lively in stock form than I expected. The SL600 I test drove felt nothing like this. I don't think I need more power or a more aggressive transmission.
