Tire Pressue Monitoring Systems

I would like folks feedback on this option. Is it accurate, is it a maintenance problem, does the benefit out weigh its potential downsides. Bottom line, should I get this option?

Thanks

IMO is just an extra waste of option. I mean you can't even check the tire perssure yourself. Think this is for lazy people.

All vehicles in the U.S. within the next couple of year will have to come with a tire pressure monitoring system as standard equip. as regulated and mandated by the DOT. I guess all the Ford Explorer tires faliures really got the DOT all excited.

I like the tire pressure monitoring system because it alerts me when I have a flat or low tire. I drive 50 miles to/from work everyday and I want to know when I have a nail in my tire.

I've had my CL since the beginning of the year and the monitoring system told me about a nail in one of my tires already. The car I had before my CL for 8 months had nails twice in its tires.

It's not laziness -- unless you consider not measuring my tire pressure twice per day being lazy.

I have the tire pressure system and love it. Especially with low profile tires it's hard to tell if they're a little low and if you have on a suit and don't want to get your hands dirty with brake dust it's very convenient.

Cool Jame55...I beg to differ

I still like your icon. I think she's natural. No silicone.

At any rate, I like the tire pressure monitoring system (although I do not have it on my M-B or Porsche). All BMW M cars come with the system. It works, although I am a bit more meticulous about checking my tire pressure than the average person.

While driving my Z8, I apparently was the victim of some A**HOLE who thought it would be amusing to place a nail under my tire. I started taking off on a rather fast drive, when the monitor went off. I pulled over to check my tires, and there was the low one with a nail protruding.

I got it fixed post haste, and went on my merry way. The Z8 tires are run-flats, but I don't think in the flat condition their ready for a 100 mph run.

Two points. The monitoring system warned me before something bad happened. The second point is whoever did this to me is going to be eviscerated. Alive.

Thanks all for the comments

I heard no complaints that the systems are unreliable. Sounds like an option I will get.
